I just got back from an Epic cruise and I absolutely loved it. Being a “veteran” of a dozen or so cruises from multiple lines I can say that the “Freestyle” system is amazing.
I absolutely loved being able to do what I wanted, when I wanted, wearing whatever I wanted.
Blue Man was one of many hi-lights, the ship was beautiful, dining in the restaurants was wonderful and the over all “feel” was far superior to anything I’ve experienced on royal, Carnival, etc...
I would have to give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Pros: • Great entertainment, Blue Man, Cirque, DJs, Pools, etc... • Great dining choices, truly something for everyone from better than average buffet to great fillet and lobster • Freestyle attitude, dress up if you want (or not) eat when and where you want • Great staff, best of Norwegian’s line • Adult and Family pools
Cons: • Sometimes when getting on elevators it looked like a “Biggest Loser” casting call. Inevitably one more large family will always shoehorn on • Too many “Sugar Free” deserts in the buffet (possibly due to larger diabetic passengers) • As with any cruise, too much mark up on excursions.... ALWAYS negotiate your own excursions off ship, within main gates.
Do not be scared off by some of the complaints on this forum. • The room design is fine for the average/normal size guest, no issues seeing in the bathroom or shower. I’m a 5’ 10” 170 lbs male and had no issues with bed, sink, shower, etc... If you are obese maybe a destination trip may be more appropriate. • Norwegian cannot tell people not to bring their children on board... if you are not a fan of children, use common sense and plan your trip after school is in session. • Yes there is limited TV?but if your big plan is to sit in a room and watch TV, why are you going on a cruise? • I actually like the little occasional $5-10 charges for things like bowling, if its not worth $5 to you, you probably didn’t want to do it anyway and were blocking someone whom really did.
