Sail Date: Aug 2010

We had never been on a cruise before. And the only reason we went on this one is because of a business conference having to relocate due to the tensions that happened a few months ago in Bangkok. We went with open minds interested to see what we thought of cruising, and whether it would be our kind of thing. We were impressed with how smoothly up to 2000 people were checked on to the ship. There were no delays, not sure whether it was because we were balcony class. We found our cabin to be fairly compact, thank goodness it did have a balcony it was nice to be able to open the door for some hot fresh air. The bed was comfortable to sleep in, though the vibrating from the engines was interesting along with the drone that goes with them. Sailing was smooth though, only the slightest of swells one day. We had all of our meals in the Bella Vista restaurant. Breakfasts were good a nice selection, lunch was a three course affair (usually a sandwich at home)and dinner was three courses as well. Service staff in this restaurant were on a whole very good. I have no idea how some guests get through six meals a day, we certainly couldn't entertain the idea. As we were there with a conference group, we had pre-planned cocktail evening, business sessions etc... to attend, so this kept our time on board fairly busy. Our two ports of call were Phuket and Langkawi and then back to Singapore so we had a total of only three nights on the ship. Final disembarkation in Singapore was once again smooth going, though baggage claim was a zoo, it didn't take long to retrieve the bags. Well as I said at the beginning of this we were curious to know if cruising was for us. The answer is no, it was nice to get away but we are used to having space and being able to get away from the hustle and bustle when we choose and this was more of a challenge on a ship. We have also been very spoilt over the years and are used to staying in 5 star accommodation and I'm afraid the cabins on this ship are not 5 star and really are beginning to look tired and in need of refurbishing.
