We just got off the ship yesterday, completing our first cruise with HAL on the Zuiderdam. We have cruised before with RCCL, HCL, Princess and Orient. Our favorite until now has been NCL because of the anytime meals and the wide variety of dining venues on the ships.

We took this cruise to Alaska as our anniversary is that time of year and we always celebrate with something extra. This was our fourth cruise to Alaska and third out of Vancouver. We also honeymooned there so we are quite familiar with the city. Due to that, we flew in the day before.

We stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel as it is located at Canada Place and the same dock as the Zuiderdam would be sailing from. Perfect. The view was just what we wanted, looking at the harbor and in fact we watched the Zuiderdam sail in from its last cruise.

Cabin Review

Neptune Deluxe Verandah Suite

Cabin SB

We had the perfect position midships on Deck 5. We did look down at the top of the life boats. That made for a slight loss of view but overall did not detract from our experience. The balcony and the cabin seemed a bit small. The storage was fantastic. The bathroom was fine, but the shower curtain would have been nicer if it was clear. There is no light in that area and the curtain makes it quite dark when bathing. Our plumbing functioned perfectly, but we heard from other cruisers lots of problems with leaks. We did see engineers frequently in the halls working on other cabins.
