ITINERARY: Western Mediterranean Cruise - Genoa - Marseilles - Barcelona - Tusina - Matla - Messina - Genoa
We are a family of 5, and have traveled many times on Disney, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity primarily staying in suites. As far as MSC Splendida is concerned there so called "based on an absolutely unique prototype that incorporates first-ever features, such as the ship-within-a-ship Yacht Club concept for suite holders", is a far cry from what you would expect. I have detailed our experience with MSC Splendida, and to put it in some many words, it was our FIRST and most certainly our LAST time on ANY of their vessels.
ROOM: We were put into the Family Suite located in Deck 9, which included all the Yacht Club privileges and benefits, to be precise Room 9010, and was "specifically" told it was next to the Yacht Club. A very nice, comfortable and clean room. Is it worth the money compared to what you are offered on ANY other vessel for the same type of room, absolutely NOT? To pay for the unlimited beverages and butler service, laundry and cheap FREE wine at dinner, I could live without!!! You have a small fridge that is always replenished with drinks, our butler was very nice, however is unfortunate they are limited to what they can do based on what the ship has to offer. For this type of room, the bathroom is beyond small. It is the same size as their ordinary rooms except that instead of having a stand-alone shower you had your shower in the bathtub. I would say the bathroom is NO larger than 40 square feet, and this room accommodates 5 people. A far cry from any other vessels suite bathroom.
The location of the room is absolutely horrible, we are apart of the Yacht Club, but our room is located at the front of the ship NOT on the Yacht Club floors. To have access to all the amenities it takes 15mins. And incredibly difficult to get too, not to mention inconvenient for families with children to have walk to the mid ship elevators at deck 14 and take another elevator to the Yacht Club Membership one. MSC should be ashamed to be charging Yacht Club fees for a family suite. The family suite should be charged a little more than a regular room, as they're on the same floors as ordinary rooms, and do not have the nicely decorated floor or larger hallways as what the Yacht Club has. Do not charge people if you are not providing the same to Yacht Club Members and tell them that it is the same it is NOT! Additionally, after speaking to the Third Officer, it was confirmed to us, there have been various complaints about this room, but they cannot do anything about it. We had the unfortunate of being woken up every morning by major vibration and shaking when the vessel would dock and once leaving port. So bad to the point our clothing came off the shelves and hangars. I guess you can say although they aware of the complaints they do not respond to their passenger needs.
