We just returned from a ten-night Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on the Celebrity Equinox beginning on July 16th, 2010. Without a doubt, we started our cruising experience at the top! And we had numerous other folks confirm this observation as well!

Embarkation: When we called Celebrity, they told us not to arrive before 2:00 pm to board, but there were plenty of folks already onboard. The whole process was orderly and even though there was a large crowd, it didn't take us long to go through the process. Luggage arrived by 4:00 pm.

Stateroom Info: First off, our oceanview-with-balcony stateroom was number 7236 on the starboard side, midship. The seventh floor was a great location for us---room was quiet---the only times we ever heard our neighbors was when their door shut, or when they were talking loudly on the balcony. We loved our room---bathroom was great. We were expecting a smaller bathroom, but the shower with glass door was very nice and there was ample storage in one glass and one wooden door over multiple shelves to the left of the sink. There were 2 small drawers to the right of the sink---just big enough for our toothbrushes, but great for miscellaneous hair clips, ties, etc.

The bed was awesome---very comfortable. We really liked the wooden closet doors and used the small shelf to the top of the closet. The over-bed cabinets were ample, and we stored most of our clothing there. While there were about 10-12 wooden hangers in the closet, I would have liked more---just to let the wrinkles fall out of the clothes. Easily resolved by buying cheap plastic hangers to bring for next time. Speaking of wrinkles---I really recommend Downey Wrinkle Release---great product for those of us who usually iron, but could not on the ship.

Desk area with cabinet drawers was fine. Since we do not drink alcohol, we asked our room steward, Frederick, to empty the mini-bar so that we could use the fridge to store our own water bottles. What we discovered that he did was to put all the alcohol in a bag and store it under our bed out of the way! That was fine with us! On the last night of our cruise, he restocked the fridge with the alcohol, in prep for debarkation the next day.

Our couch was actually a pull-out (from underneath) for a third person in the room. We didn't use this, but it was nice and long, if needed. The balcony held two reclining chairs and a small round table. I tried to nap on the balcony, but it wasn't really practical without a footstool (my calves went to sleep!) I heard that you might be able to ask for a footstool (after the cruise, of course)---but can't confirm that you could get one.
