Triumph Family Cruise

Sail Date: July 2010
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: New Orleans

We live 90 minutes away from the cruise terminal so we did not use a hotel. Embarkation was an absolute breeze. We arrived 11am and were sitting on board eating lunch in less than an hour. Carnival stated cabins would be ready at 1:30pm and they were. Our cabin Steward was fantastic. He introduced himself to us the first day and cleaned our cabin twice a day without being seen. We had a sofa bed for our granddaughter that opened into a single bed, she said it was very comfortable.

We ate all our meals in the Dining Room and had no complaints. Our waiter Jose was excellent. After the first day, drinks were on there waiting for us. Our youngest granddaughter used a booster seat and it was always there as well. We celebrated two birthdays with a delicious cake and they whole staff helped sing. Each night the staff entertained us with singing and dancing.

The entertainment shows were not very good. Carnival can definitely improve in this area. We had 4 children with us More ages 3-11 and they all loved Camp Carnival so much that they did not want to leave. I would not recommend a summer cruise on carnival if you do not want to cruise with children. The cruise director announced we have +1200 children on our cruise.

Disembarkation was an absolute nightmare. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, UNLOAD YOU LUGGAGE YOURSELF! My husband did the self load and was out in 15 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to wait for the ship. It was horrible. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

We took a taxi to Our Locaya Beach @ $5pp. We spend about two hours on this beautiful beach. There was outdoor showers to clean up with. Next we walked across the street to a market for shopping. We bought some straw crafts and souvenirs and then returned to the ship.

Key West was beautiful. The Butterfly Conservatory was a big hit with the children and ladies (the men waited at a nearby local bar ). It is a two block further walk to the beach. We visited the Hemmingway House and the children loved all the cats ;) We had lunch a Margaritaville, I would not recommend this. The prices were high for what you get and service extremely slow. One family member in our group rented an electric scooter and at the end of the day they gave him a ride back to the ship, very convenient.

Our group of 15 people choose to the Beach day at Blue Lagoon on Paradise Island. We did not book through the ship. The ferry met us at the cruise ship terminal along with the guests who booked through the ship and dropped us all off. At the end of the day, the ferry dropped us off at the terminal. Our package was to include lunch but they ran out of hamburgers and hot dogs. Since some of our group did not eat chicken, they had to go without eating and were not compensated. The children enjoyed the water and they each took a photo with a dolphin for $16 charge.

The water was so pretty and we would recommend it as a lower cost alternative to Atlantis.
