Sail Date: Jul 2010

I recently sailed with my family on July 11, 2010 on the Caribbean Princess to the Caribbean sailing from Brooklyn. This was my fifth cruise on Princess and my ninth cruise in total. The issues I experienced centered on climate, food, and service. Climate: Due to what I believe is a design flaw, areas of the ship were either too hot or too cold. This made the women within my party continuously uncomfortable. Evidently this has been a long-term problem and it cannot be corrected. Food: Standard meals seemed of far lower quality than what we experienced on other Princess ships and other lines such as Celebrity. Cost-cutting was very noticeable in dinner choices, plating, and dinner service. However, "special" meal such as the Captain's or Chef's dinner was still OK. So, when they want to spend the money dinners improved. Pasta and Sabatini's remained good. Of special note, the buffets had far fewer choices and of much lower quality than our previous experience. In fact, on some occasions my spouse could not find anything to eat at lunch. Service: Since Caribbean is a grand class ship with an extra deck of cabins and no added common space, the ship seemed crowded and the staff overtaxed. In many instances we found the staff to be rude or at best indifferent. In addition, the haphazard way in which the ship was constructed and refurbished with new features during its last dry dock makes for a very confusing and inefficient layout. In summary, I would not recommend Caribbean Princess to seasoned cruisers. What I do not know is how much of these issues are related to the individual ship versus Princess cost-cutting? I also noticed that Princess was rated dead last in the recent T&L poll among large ship lines.
