My wife and I and another couple arranged out Baltic Cruise through a tour package that took us to London for two nights and a transfer to the "Beautiful Norwegian Sun" in Dover. The four of us have 7 previous cruises together, and the other couple has half a dozen more.
To say that the four of us were disappointed in the ship is an understatement. To start with, the rooms were small to the point of being cramped. As the trip went on, we came to understand that the ship's "Freestyle" slogan was a cover for service that was just the opposite. Example - there is no set dinner seating so you can eat whenever and wherever you want - as long as you want to eat the limited hours the dining room is open. Breakfast service, for instance, shuts down at 10:30 am, and lunch starts an hour later, even on sea days, meaning you cannot sleep in and eat breakfast when you want.
The ship's layout is clearly for the cruise line's convenience, not for the passengers. Do you need to go from one end of the ship to the other? Well, there is no hallway. You need to walk through the casino on 6, walk through a nightclub and the shops on 7, or go outside on 6 or 11. Since one of the two main dining rooms is on 5 at the rear, those circuitous routes were necessary once or twice a day.
The room was so small that the bed was blocking the window. We estimated the square footage at 150, including bathroom, closet, and entry. Location was close to the front so that the noise of the docking equipment (thrusters and all that) woke us and kept us awake 20 to 30 minutes every time we landed.
