This was a superb cruise for our 7- strong family covering 3 generations. The Southampton embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and trouble free.As seasoned cruisers, we knew what to expect on "Ventura".Our son, his wife and their three children were highly delighted with their state rooms and all aspects of their first cruise.

The facilities offered to the children aged 9.12 and 15 were vibrant, varied and safe. Adults wanting a quieter time could utilise the peaceful OASIS terrace and pool.

The entertainment was intelligently varied - something for everyone! The "Ventura Theatre Company" was superlative. The staff were particularly friendly and attentive to our family`s needs.

We were delighted with the Captain since he articulated matters both maritime and social with simple fluency and warmth.

The seven ports of call were wisely chosen but it was too hot to enjoy them thoroughly.

One might expect with a passenger list of 3,389, that the public areas might be crowded but this was not the case - one could always be accommodated easily in the lounges and restaurants, pool and deck areas.

We would recommend "Ventura" without hesitation.

Cabin review: Inside Twin with Shower

OBR323
Adequate size. Safe provided giving a tremendous easing of anxiety. Good wardrobe provision and shelf space. Fridge. Comfortable bed.Plentiful provision of tea coffee etc. Good position on Riviera Deck- slightly fore of midships. Quiet. very convenient for Terrace bar and pool.Very convenient for Waterside and Beach Hut restaurants. Very convenient for the Arena theatre. Lighting in state room only adequate. Inside rooms require better light at the bedhead.

We decided to visit the Parc Guell independently. We took the shuttle bus(no charge) to the International Trade centre. Took the metro to Lesseps, then the bus to the Parc Guell. Both forms of transport were very busy and hectic. The Parc Guell houses many examples of Gaudi`s ideas and work- and is fascinating and beautiful. There were several musicians whose music added to our entertainment. We decided to take a taxi back to the ITC because of the heat. The cost of 2 taxis was only a little more expensive than the combined cost of metro and bus for 7 people and very much more convenient.

The ship was at anchor in the bay so it was necessary to take the ship`s tender into the port. This is always a bonus experience. An enjoyable people-watching experience.

We docked at Livorno, the port for Pisa and Florence. Too hot for Florence we decided. The local buses were on strike the day we were in port. We enquired about the taxi fares to Pisa which were exorbitant in our view and the taxi drivers were very aggressive nor did we think they were Italian..We took the Shuttle bus at a cost of 5 euros/adult to carry us from the ship to Livorno town. Our 12 and 15 year old granddaughters were charged as adults. A special bus was laid on for Pisa at a cost of 20 euros.Tickets obtainable from the Information Kiosk. The market at Livorno was quite extensive - varied stalls offering much for our grandchildren to consider . There was a very large fruit and vegetable market very close to the shuttle drop off point.

Took the shuttle into Gibraltar and walked to the Moorish Castle. Main reason for visit was to see the famous apes. These were observed in the street rifling a refuse bin and provided us with much amusement. The streets were very busy.
