After seven years in the planning & building stages, the launching of Disney Cruise Line's first ship a few months ago, The Disney Magic, was a long anticipated event for those in the cruise industry. Being foremost in the entertainment and vacation business, and strategically situated in Florida, the world's cruise port capital, it was logical to many of us for Disney to enter the cruise industry. With Port Canaveral only an hour away, they could package week long vacations including a 3-4 day cruise and 3 or 4 day Walt Disney World Resort/theme park vacation. It would be 'all Disney,' a seamless package, utilizing the Disney transportation system, which now includes a fleet of 'Disney Cruise Line' motorcoaches to link the airport and Disney World to the new Disney Cruise Terminal.

EMBARKATION: I have never experienced a smoother embarkation. This part is usually a hassle, but this time it was a joy and part of the overall cruise experience to be savored. This port facility was designed by Disney from the ground up, cost 28 million dollars, and is a classy & intelligent design. From route 528 'The Beeline Expressway' (coming from Orlando) or I-95 signs clearly directs you to The Disney Terminal. As I entered the terminal gate I felt more like I was entering a fine country club, with beautiful signs, landscaping, and wrought iron gates. We were met as we pulled up to the curb of the terminal building, helped with our bags, and directed to the parking entrance. The beautifully landscaped parking lot is right next to the terminal building so there was very little walking. Bus parking was on the other side of the terminal, so we didn't have to negotiate the usual dual with the buses. Disney people were at every strategic location to direct us, with smiles on their faces, and were almost overly helpful. Entering this terminal was more like entering the lobby of a fine hotel, simply beautiful, very spacious, and easy to negotiate. We were directed to the check-in counter where personnel were many and lines short (only one party in front of us). We presented our ID & tickets and each received ONE magnetic card which would be our boarding pass, stateroom key, and charge card. What a convenience rather than the usual separate pass, key, and charge card to have to remember and keep track of for each person. There lobby center was a huge scale model of the ship and standing nearby was Mickey himself all decked out in a captains uniform to greet us and take a photo. Disney is a premium cruise and carries a premium price tag, but any question I had about 'is it worth it' began to fade when I saw the expression on my 5 yr. old's face when he saw Mickey. We walked up the wide, covered gangway (which was nearly level) and into the ship's lobby, and wow!

I have cruised on the best of those who call themselves the best, but never have I been so impressed upon entering a ship. Simply magnificent. Posh, but not glitzy, a perfect blend of fine drapes, marble, fine wool carpet, beautiful woods, (4) glass elevators...5 stars all the way. Beyond that, it had a great feel to it. The feeling of friendliness and spaciousness was everywhere. Even the lighting seemed well designed and perfect. We were immediately met and directed to our stateroom.
