We have cruised twice before this year so we took this cruise for the ship and nothing but the ship. It met and exceeded our expectations. What a ship!!
The check in was flawless, no lines, very quick and in less than 10 mins you are on the ship. Getting to the parking area is tricky, you have to go around where a lot of cars/taxis are unloading their baggage, but once you park, drop off your bags and things go very smooth.
We had my time dining and loved it. Dont even waste your time to do the online reservation, just show up when it's convenient for you. We had made all our reservations online and never kept them. They have two lines, one for the guests with reservations and one for the guests without. The line for the guests without went a lot faster. We never had to wait and we always requested the table with Roshan and his assistant Sheila. They were wonderful. Very professional.
The shows are amazing. Dont miss any of them. We went to see "Come Fly with Me" twice. If you dont have reservation you have to wait until 10 mins before it begins to get in, but on the last day you can go in anytime. The shows in the Aqua Theater are wonderful. If you cant get a seat, go to the end of the hallway on the 11th and 12th deck. There is a large balcony overlooking the theater and can watch and hear it very clearly.
The food was good but not great. The food in the Windjammer was not that great, but it seems to be the norm now in all cruise lines. I guess they are not putting that much into food anymore. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants. We had breakfast and sometimes lunch at the Park Cafe and it was good, especially sitting outside enjoying Central Park.
The nightclubs were very nice. Dazzle has a smoking section on the 2nd floor but you can smell it all over the first floor, so we were not very comfortable there. The musicians there were also not that great. Jazz on 4 ended up being our favorite place to go. It is non-smoking and the musicians are great. Boleros was good for the music, but again too much smoking going on.
My husband was disappointed that they did not have a nicer loung for cigar smoking. The only one that we knew of was on the top deck above the solarium. It was open so at night it got breezy and it was hot. Most ships we have taken have a nice closed in area for cigar smokers to enjoy and nobody has to deal with the smell unless you go in there, unless other places that were open and there was a lot of smoke.
The ship is impeccable. Great staff. Excellent room attendants. We found everyone to be very friendly and accomodating.
The only set back for us is the amount of kids onboard. We found kids sitting in the elevators going up and down and being annoying. Only once did we hear a staff member ask them to go to their rooms if they had nothing else to do, but he was not firm enough and did not stick around to see them leave the elevator, so they stayed there. Another time we saw a girl sitting on the handrail of the elevator going up and down. Again, nothing was said. We saw this incident of a group of kids doing this three times in different elevators. But we ignored them and hoped the staff would notice sooner or later.
We really enjoyed our trip and loved the ship. Would not care to sail on Oasis again because of its massive size, we would prefer a ship with less kids, but it was a great experience.
