At 1:30 we headed to our stateroom. The space and set up was as expected. Teh bathroom was a shower only facility but maybe a little roomier than a few other lines. The sink had chips and cigarette burns, but was clean, the carpet looked worn, but was clean. There was a stronge sewage smell in the bathroom most of the trip, but did not permeate the rest of the cabin. the pubic bathrooms had nice freshner scents so no smell in them. The beds were some of the most comfortable beds we ahve ever had on a cruise.
The entertainment was really nice. We saw the first show and were very impressed with all the singers and the performers. the cruise director has a great voice, too bad she did not participate in the crew talent show. The lecturer was also good. The staff top to bottm were some of the friendliest I have ever encountered.
The breakfast buffet and the dining room were often 5 to 10 minutes behind schedule. In the breakfast and lunch lines the servers often said yes to whatever you asked, wheather they understood or not. Thus they often did not get you what you were asking for. Nor did they always understand how you were ordering eggs or meat. Small but aggrivating issue. The food was average to good. We really could not call anything spectacular. We did however miss the choclate buffet, so maybe that would have been spectacular. If it was, we never heard about it. We did not visit the specialty restaurnt. We did hear it was spectacular.
Service was good most of the time, but we did have issues. One time we had to call to get an extra towel because our steward apparently did not understand my request that morning. we called 3 times and waited 2 hours for the towel. This sent me over the edge with several other small issues. Since we had spoken at lentgth with the Hotel manager in our cruise critic social, he told us to contact him if we should have any issues pr need any assitance so we did. The next day the manager under him , over our steward came to our cabin personally to see what could be done. We told him of all the small things that were really beginning to pile up and he profusely appologized. he told us that our Steward was one of about half of the stewards that had no beeper or means of being contacted so our steward did not get messages and we did not get servioce because of it. I explained that i understood that woudl be an issue but that I felt that was an issue that Celebrity should fix. It was definitely not indicative of an "upscale" cruise line. They asked about the lateness of the Breakfast and the dindig room and then dicussed that their clocks often did not keep good time. I also understood but again told them that was a Celebrity issue and not indicative of "upscale" and if they planned to open 10 min early then they should be open at least on time if clocks were an issue. The Hotel manager also asked about the communication issues, and then suggested that maybe his staff did not fully understand. I agreed but again reminded them that if they claimed to understand and could serve the English speakers, then they should understand. If that was not the case then it was the cruise line that should make sure they were completely trained or at least knew how to ask if they did not understand. They also had an adult only pool that constantly had kids in it. and though staff were around, no one was enforcing the rules. As a result of our rather detailed discussion they asked what they could do to make up for all the inconvenience. I told them just to have the restaurants opened on time, and service available when we needed it. They promised to work on the issues immediately and wanted to send a bottle of wine. we told then that would be great but was in no way necessary, plus we tended to drink the sweet wines only, and they were not so popular on this ship. they insisted and asked specifically what we liked. We told them. Then they sent a bottle of dry white the next day. When we received it we called and thanked them but told them they really should not have and that we truly did not drink dry wine, so they should really keep it and sell it. Instead they sent the bottle to the guests we were traveling with and had us a bottle of Riesling waiting at our dinner table that night. Then the next day we came in to the room and had two bath robes, fancy pens and travel cases waiting on us. in response to our issues, we never had another late breakfast or dinner, and we had no further issues with any service in our cabin. They even had the pool personnel telling the parents that their kids were welcome in the main pool but that the adult pool was not for children. I have never had such amazing and immediate response. That was definitely "upscale." Big disappointment-NO Towel art except by the pool! So sad.
My husband sis Halibut fishing. He was able to catch one small halibut and then others that caught theirs were not interested in sending fish home, so they gave theirs to him. It was even pricier-120.00 to send the halibut home, but we did. Rated about a 4 for his experience.
