Long time cruiser 5th time on Celebrity. Second time to Bermuda this time for a direct cruise.
Strange things happen when a company gets taken over. Bring back the old Celebrity. This trip started out fine, Bayonne was set up and smooth operations to get us on board quickly and painless. Typical Celebrity style. The old entrance of walking you to your cabin is gone. Warm champagne and pointed in the direction to travel. Here is where the ball drops. Our cabin was fine that is until we unpacked. Both night stands had broken draws and were unusable. The refrigerator needed for insulin didn't work, warm soda and drinks were available though. Closet had two drawers that would not open.... Shower leaked onto the floor soaking the carpet between the bed and outer shower wall. The TV (circa 1970) went off and on at it's own choice. Try waking up at 3:00AM to the TV lighting the room. Toilet had a mind of it's own and flushed when it wanted to. That is anywhere from 1 to 10 pushes on the flusher.... The bed mattress was shot.... curved in the middle as if a 300 pounder was in it for years. The room was very tired and needed an overhaul.
Dining was typical Celebrity, nice meals ample portions, under salted and under seasoned. Lightly chilled shrimp cocktail, excellent snails. Stay away from pasta dishes, they tended to be dried out from sitting around. Lobster and seafood well prepared. Steaks, beef tenderloin, Osso Bucco (sp?) was excellent, lamb was perfect. Soups always were warm at best never hot. Ice cream for desert were crying out to be frozen. They tended to be soupy and mushy.
The Summit is worn and needs refurbishing. The cabin was ample and had quite usable space. Balcony with unobstructed view. Sliding door too heavy for wife to handle. Needed oil or adjusting. furniture in poor repair.
