Because of a family illness we had to cancel our Alaska cruisetour in June, so we decided to at least take a quick getaway. We booked the cruise two weeks in advance directly through RCI. We have sailed out of Ft Lauderdale 3 times, and this was by far the smoothest embarcation yet. From the time we reached the port until we were eating lunch on board was less than 15 minutes. Our cabin, balcony on deck 7, was the roomiest standard we have sailed on in our ten cruises and other than the small TV and salmon colored toilet seat, up to date in all respects. The common areas were well maintained and up-to-date. We were impressed with the appearance and leg room in the theater. The only criticisms of the public areas were that the fitness center was much too small, and the solarium needed more ambiance and ventilation. We are solarium people and like to spend much of our on board time in solariums. Compared with the Solstice or Brilliance, this was a no go. Much too hot, with no soothing music or sound of water features. Shows were standard cruise fare, but entertaining, and the Cruise Director and the pianist in Schooners was great. We were most impressed with the captain. He was most informative and extremely visible, participating in passenger activities and seemed to be everywhere on the ship. On our other nine cruises (Disney and Celebrity as well as RCI), the captain was mostly invisible-and usually unintelligible. The service was first rate in all areas. The food (traditional early seating) was good, if not up to the standards of our experiences on Celebrity. Considering it was late May, we were somewhat surprised with the passenger demographics. Most were college age or slightly older. More like a spring break crowd, but it was never a problem for us (we're in the silver-haired category). Overall, a most enjoyable experience for a quick, last minute getaway
