OUR WEEK ON VOYAGER TO THE MED

Sail Date: June 2010
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

We got on the ship in Barcelona after having had our flights and transfers arranged by RC. All went smoothly and we were so excited to see the ship as we got off the transfer coach. The check in to get onto the ship was quick and very efficient. Soon we went to our stateroom - there were plenty staff to guide you should you need it on the ship. Our stateroom, even though it was only the basic one was absolutely fantastic. The beds and proper sprung beds with nice pillows and there was a settee, hairdryer and everything you need really. There is shampoo and conditioner (all in one) provided. We took our hairdryer but did not need it as the ship one was powerful. The sockets are both europe and american connections.

We were on the ship by 1pm. Our luggage arrived by 5pm and we were pleased to meet our room attendant who made it plain that anything we needed to just phone him. That proved to be true of all the RC staff - nothing was too much trouble. We were first time cruisers More and were very concerned prior to the trip that everything would be ok and more so, would we like cruising? We absolutely loved it. The staff were second to none, food sumptuous and clientelle good.

We dined in the Magic Flute. Fazal was our waiter and he was assisted by Christian they honestly did 110% to make sure all the guests were happy and in the corridors as you walked around the ship the staff passed the time of day with you and were on hand should you need them. I hope you find this write up as useful as I have had reading others. You will not regret picking Royal Caribbean, they really see to your every need. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

We did not get off the ship this day as there was a prob at the port and the ship were using tenders. The buses were taking 2 and a half hours to get into central Florence so we were glad we decided to stay on board as five hours travel time is a long time out of a day's sightseeing. Normally I think the trip to Florence should have been one and a half hours from Port.

Actually we docked at Toulon. We took a private trip "Provence Designer Trips". The owner Catherine was wonderful. We drove to Aix de Provence in Mercedes van (7 of us plus driver) then looked round the wonderful market there. We had a wine tasting tour and then a picnic in the vineyard. Lastly we visited a lovely little place called Cassis.

Catherine was charming, she got us back to the ship for the allotted time of 4pm as we were sailing off early that day.

A wonderful trip a fantastic holiday

We got off the ship at 9.15 am so by this time a lot of the passengers had already got off.

We knew the ticket office for the hydrofoil to Capri was literally 7 minutes walk away. We proceeded across there but please beware of locals trying to get you to go on taxi trips as their selling prowess is a little over enthusiastic to say the least. The fare one way to Capri is 32 Euros. You purchase your ticket before you get on the Hydrofoil. We went on the fast ship about 40 minutes and the provider of this service was SNAV. Upon arrival at Capri we immediately bought our return ticket for Naples as I had read on this site that it was advisable to do so. You specify which ferry time you want and we thought 1630 would leave us enough time so we bought tickets for that one but you can use the ticket to get on any boat before that. Obviously if the ship is crowded later and you have a ticket for an earlier ship you may get refused onto it but we had no problem getting on the 1440 hydrofoil.

Anyway upon arrival at Capri should you want to go up to the town you need to purchase a funicular ticket (this takes only a few minutes to get up to the top of Capri where all the shops and restaurants are). In the height of summer the queues may be long but we were only queuing for 2 minutes.

Capri is lovely, lots of atmosphere and little alleyways we walked around looking at all the designer shops and then had lunch before returning to the ship. There are restaurants as you get off the hydrofoil also but the ones in Capri are lovely so we decided to eat at one overlooking the sea.

Today we got the train to Nice but only stayed 3 hours. We got off the ship at Citavecchia and it is so easy you literally walk off the ship and past the little seaside restaurants 7 minutes walk to the station. Train fare return to Nice is 3 Euros but be sure not to get off train at first Nice stop it is the second one you need Nice Ville it is called. Trains are plentiful.

We came back to Citavecchia and were glad we did we loved this place, so pretty and had a lovely pasta at a seaside cafe. The town is fantastic very very nice. This and the next day were our favourites.

Do leave time to look round Citavecchia it is fantastic.

We went on a Royal Caribbean "Rome on Your Own" trip. We met in a designated place on the ship and the organisation was good. We proceeded to our bus with the RC staff member and then were very impressed by the bus guide who sold us tickets for a "Hop on hop off" bus tour of Rome. We got to Rome about 10 am and met the guide in central Rome at 16.15. The meeting point was easy to find as it was right by the bus stop for the hop on/off bus. The point was near the Vatican. The day was extremely hot 37 degrees. We were glad we had purchased the bus ticket. We got off near the Spanish Steps and walked to the beautiful Trevi Fountain then had lunch at a cafe near the Trevi then got back on the bus and visited the Colesseum.

We found the trip good as you were not steeped in too much historical information but were able to look around at our own pace. Again, RC organisation was very good. I cannot knock their trips at all they are stress free.
