At first sight, the Brilliance of the Seas is impressive and were keen to explore and not deterred by the obvious photo 'sell' opportunity before we were allowed to embark. The crew are all excellent and extremely friendly and every language is spoken on board by obliging crew members and a helpful 'flag on badge' system which told you where crew members were from and which languages they spoke. The communal areas are well kept and well staffed and there are plenty of activities to get involved with if you want to. Although it was a little disconcerting when some of these were imposed upon you through the loudspeaker system by somewhat over exuberant and, on occasions childlike, entertainment staff. The only staff who were NOT helpful, in fact on occasions downright UN-helpful were the Guest Relations staff - the people who were supposed to be the interface for the cruise. On one occasion they failed to deliver an important message from our travel agents regarding a change in return flights - in fact it took 2 days and a lot of pressure to get it out of them at all! There had been an administrative error regarding prepaid gratuities, and again they were unhelpful to the point of rudeness. These are just 2 of the occasions when we were disappointed with the service and we heard many other passengers complain of similar experiences. On the last day I experienced a tummy upset and went to the shop for Imodium tablets and was told that these were only distributed by the medical centre. In complete innocence, I went to the centre and asked for a couple of tablets to settle it down and after half an hour of form filling, having my blood pressure taken (perfect), my temperature taken (normal) and assuring them that my only symptom was an excessive number of visits to the toilet that day, I was told I had "acute gastro enteritis" and must be confined to my cabin. I was very upset especially when the Guest Relations manager telephoned to confirm that I had to be confined to my cabin in an extremely rude and unhelpful tone. It transpires through my partner talking to other passengers and members of crew, that the ship had a problem with more serious complaints throughout the cruise and had it not been ending the following day would probably have had a problem on their hands. BEWARE: if you need Imodium, take them with you! My 'problem' was extremely mild and if you do not want to be treated in such an over the top, high-handed and unpleasant manner, then take your own and do NOT visit the medical centre. I did not have acute gastro enteritis and did not display any of the symptoms related to this unpleasant condition, but no-one demonstrated any common sense. The best part of the cruise is undoubtedly a visit to the champagne bar which is fantastically well run in an entertaining and highly efficient manner by the 2 crew members - they are a credit to Royal Caribbean.

Cabin Review

Cabin was more than adequate. Ours had a sea view with a large porthole, no balcony. The bathroom was very compact and by the end of the cruise we all were longing for a soak in a bath! Closet space adequate but no space for suitcases which had to be stored in the closet.
