We did Skagway on our own this time. Last time we did the White Pass Railroad and we wanted to venture in town this time. We walked from the ship to town which takes under 10 minutes at a leisurely pace. There are sidewalks for most of the way as well as some areas have benches to stop and rest if you need to. 
We enjoyed walking in and out of the many little shops. We found a lovely little museum at the end of a street downtown. Had a drink at the Red Onion Saloon - it can be quite busy when a few ships are in port so go here early! 
After shopping we walked back to the ship stopping off near the RV park and crossed the street over the railroad tracks to find a lovely waterfall hidden in the woods(you could hear it from the street). What a lovely and refreshing spot to take a picture. 
Just before the ship is a great restaurant/bar called The Fish Company. This is our 2nd time to eat here (once on each cruise). They have the best halibut fish fry ever!!! 
Service on the ship was very good; two nights in the Horizon Buffet we had to hunt down a person to get us our initial drink, but they apologized and were very happy to assist us. Our room steward, Gerrard, kept our suite spotless and was so cheerful each time we met him in the hall. 


Skagway

Great city for many types of excursions. Went downtown shopping; about a 7 minute walk from our ship. Took the "taste of Juneau" excursion where we went to Chez Alaska cooking school where they prepared 2 dishes using local fish for us to taste, then off to Mendenhall Glacier Park to view the glacier and waterfall and lastly we had an Alaskan Ale tasting. Quite a great excursion for under $90! 
Hubby did the helicopter glacier trek and he was just about speechless when he got back - it was so amazing! An experience he will never forget! The company the ship used provided all necessary equipment for them to use/wear and the guides were fantastic as far as safety and knowledge of the glacier. This cost was just under $400. 


Juneau

Ketchikan is a fun port of call with many wonderful shops. Both times we've been here we have purchased an excursion that goes to George Inlet Lodge for a crab feast. Our first time we flew there on a float plane and this time we took a motor coach to the lodge, then got on a pontoon boat to have a cruise on the inlet to view the crab traps and see the dungeness crabs up close and personal. 
After the cruise in the inlet we were invited back to the lodge for a crab feast. Your drink was included (beer/wine/soda) along with a nice salad, dungeness crab (I had 3 half portions and some folks had 4), red potato and cheesecake with blueberries for dessert. Both times we have really enjoyed this excursion. 
On our return bus ride to the ship our driver was so good about stopping along the road side to let us take pictures of waterfalls, eagles and other wildlife. He dropped us off downtown or at the ship (we were about 10 to 15 minutes from one end of the shops to the ship). 
This excursion was under $160 and well worth it! 
Ketchikan has a lot of wildlife to behold right in town - you see eagles sitting on dock posts or soaring the trees by the ship, seals playing in the harbor, many other birds and wildlife. 


Ketchikan

We had a mini suite - quite spacious, lovely linens on the beds, 2 TV's, full size sofa and chair in sitting area, spacious balcony that fit 4 chairs and small table and still room to stand to take pictures.  Closet area had enough space, but nothing spectacular.  Safe was small a mini laptop did not fit in it.  Bathroom has a full size tub with shower head - kind of hard for elderly or disabled to step in and out of tub to take a shower.  Nice location as there was no noise from above or below.

We chose the Coral Princess for the itinerary (two full days of glacier viewing)as well as the size (we did not want to go any larger than this size ship as we really prefer smaller ships i.Lunch: Bayou Cafe for British Pub Day so we had fish & chips (good) Dinner: Horizon Buffet (we skipped formal night) 
Monday another sunny day in Glacier Bay.
