My wife and I just returned from a 4 night Bahamas cruise on the Norwegian Sky. This was our first Norwegian cruise and we were interested in how the "Freestyle" experience would be for us. We have cruised about six other times on other mainstream lines.
Embarkation went smoothly in Miami for us as we live about 20 miles from the Port. The lines moved fairly well. Once on board we were informed the staterooms would not be ready until 2pm, so as luck would have it, we only had to wait a few minutes before we had access to our cabin. Our stewards were Nancy and Richard, they were very friendly and took great care of us.
We ended up on the aft deck for the sail away for a bon voyage cocktail and enjoyed the music provided by Leo. The bartender and waitstaff were very accommodating.
The first evening we decided to dine in the Palace dining room and enjoyed it very much. We found the food to be very good, my wife had the salmon (which is listed on the always available side of the menu)and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had tortellini in a creamy cheese sauce the also was quite good. Our waiter Erik was on the ball providing us with great service. We ended up dining in the Palace for the rest of the cruise. We did want to try Cagney's Steak House because we heard good comments from fellow passengers about it, we did not make it though ,tired from shore excursions, Great Stirrup Cay beach day ect...
We did not get off in Free port, too tired from previous evening, just chose to relax on the ship. Nassau, we took a cab to Atlantis and did the water slides and rapids lazy river it was great fun. There is a courtesy shuttle to take you from the ship to the pier entrance and back in Nassau, we found this very helpful.
Great Stirrup Cay was very enjoyable, many water sports and water "toys" available. The BBQ was very good as well as the live calypso music, tender service was well organized. Ice cream was available every day during the afternoon on the pool deck (soft serve cones) and near the garden buffet at 5:30 until 6:30 (regular ice cream 3 or 4 flavors with assorted toppings) and mini cakes as well as skewered fruit that they dip in the chocolate fountain if you wish (very good)
The music was all over the ship, different styles in various venues, something for everyone.
Unfortunately we missed the shows (maybe next time).
Our only complaint was the Bingo, it was expensive to play and the payouts were small in comparison.
Disembarkation was well organized, there was a line for customs after you picked up your luggage but the line moved fairly well.
All and all we enjoyed the cruise and took notice the other passengers (of all ages) seemed to be having a great time just as we did.
The "Freestyle" experience was wonderful for us.
