We are a couple in our early 50's and this was our first Alaskan cruise, our 5th cruise with NCL, and our second on the Pearl within a period of 13 months.

Seattle: We arrived in Seattle around noon the day before embarkation. The day was beautiful, temps in the 70s and mostly sunny. A perfect day for sightseeing in Seattle. We took a cab from the airport to the Marriott Waterfront ($40) and were soon checked into our king room with water view. The Marriott is in a perfect location, across the street from the cruise pier for the Pearl and just a short walk to Pikes Market. The hotel is also very clean and comfortable. Although available, we did not eat any meals here. Our pre-cruise day: We had originally planned to do a harbor cruise, but we were too tired from the trip out and decided to forget the harbor tour. Walking left out of our hotel, we strolled along the harbor, past the Aquarium, shops, restaurants, etc. We browsed in stores and ate fish and chips on the harbor. We also made our visit to Pike's Market. Conveniently located near the Marriott, it is well worth a visit. Lots of things to see and buy: flowers, vegetables, meats, seafood, crafts, little restaurants, pastry shops and ice cream stands. Also the very first Starbucks is still in operation in the market. We bought DS, a Starbucks addict, a travel mug with "first Starbucks" on it. Pike's market is a must do.

After a quick rest, we had dinner and listened to a jazz performance at Jazz Alley. As a music venue, the food was good, not great, and a little expensive (3 or 4 mushroom ravioli's for $22). But, by coming early for dinner you got good seats for the performance (we heard Latin Jazz with a packed audience) so that was OK. Just be prepared that you pay for the food, drinks and show as separate charges, so your wallet might go ouch... but is was a lot of fun. Hint on getting to Jazz Alley from the Harbor: because everything is uphill from the harbor, take a cab to the club ($10), but walk back. Save the cab fare.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

Great balcony room with plenty of storage space - couch, flat screen TV, well proportioned bath, new lounge chairs on the balcony. Great way to see Alaska.
