This was our 10th cruise with Carnival. We enjoyed being platinum especially the free wash and fold service on a 15 day cruise this is the best. I will give the positives first.
The dining room was as always. The dining experience is always one of our favorite things about cruising. We had great service and food was good to great. Our cabin stewards were also some of the best we have had in 25 cruises.
These are my negatives. The ship is in BAD shape. The carpets are very stained and worn. The cushions in the theaters are worn and need replacing. In the adults only area in the back of the ship, the cushions on the lounge chairs were so stained I would not sit on them.
We had a mini suite V26. The carpet very stained, mirror on the vanity was messed up, stained with something I don't want to think about. The stewards did the best they could. The only update to the cabin that had been done (in 12 years) that we could see was the addition of a flat screen TV.
We have always enjoyed Carnival because of all the fun activities they have, not on this cruise. The entertainment staff was the worst we have had in 25 cruises with all cruise lines. They changed the second seating dinner show time after the second night, to 7:00 pm before dinner. This was major for us. We choose late dinner because we want to go to dinner late then to the show. We like to stay out on deck later, dress, have drinks, then dinner, then show. After dinner there was nothing to do except go to the casino (we don't even go into the casino on cruises it is just not our thing)or listen to music in one of the clubs. They could have at least shown a movie in the theater since they were not having a show. We had the same 5 movies over and over shown on the TV for 15 days. One night they had a deck party. The cruise director didn't even show. The staff cut it short maybe 30 minutes of line dancing. They were supposed to have another one. The entertainment staff didn't even show for that one. They moved one of the bands out of one of the clubs then had a western buffet.
This ship was used to doing short cruises out of San Diego. It seemed to us the cruise director tried to spread out 4 or 5 days of activities into 15 days. There were a lot of older people on this cruise so maybe he thought all they wanted to do was eat. We did the Dream transatlantic cruise last October. We were expecting the same type of activities they had on the Dream, it was a 16 day cruise. The entertainment staff were wonderful always saw the cruise director out and about. The only time we saw this cruise director was before and after the show each night and the embarkation talk.
The debarkation on this cruise was the worst we have experienced in 25 cruises. We did not dock until 12:00 noon because we had to wait for the Fantasy to leave. When we were finally able to get off there were no taxi's and not enough buses to take people to the airport. Some people waited for 2 hours for a bus to take them to the airport. This is what happened to our friends.
We will do Carnival again because we know they can do better. If this cruise had been our first Carnival it would be our last, which would be a shame because Carnival can and does do a great job. This ship didn't measure up to the the standards we had come to expect on Carnival.
