We love cruising, and it is by far the greatest vacation in the world. This was our first time on the Freedom class ships. We feel comfortable on the Voyager class and our favorite class by far is the Radiance class ships. We felt that this ship was too crowded, from the Windjammer to the pool area nd the promenade.
The food in the dining room was above average. It was as good as any ship we have ever been on. The service in the dining room was superb. We always had everything we wanted, fast and hot. The staff in the dining room was friendly and nice.
We tryed both Chops and Portafinos. We thought that Portafinos was excellent all around, including the service and the food. It was well worth the visit. On the other hand, Chops was a huge bomb! I should have listened to some of the people on Cruise Critic who said it was just ok. Not worth the extra money, we would have preferred eating in the MDR.
Another food disappointment was Johnny Rocket's. The food was not that good, it seemed like the burgers were overcooked and sitting for an hour. The service was very poor. We ordered milk shakes when we ordered our food, and he brought them as we were eating our desert. We have been to JR's on many ships, but this was the worst.
Another observation that we and others we spoke with was that the staff was not friendly. There is a RCI policy that when a staff member, from ANY department approaches a guest within 10 feet, they are to smile and say hello or good morning or some other pleasant exchange. Other than the diing staff, this rarely happened. Maybe they changed the policy that it is withing 10 inches.
The Diamond Lounge was superb!!! The staff couldn't have been nicer. This lounge was much better than we expected. It is a pity it isn't on all of the ships. This is a nice addition to the ships.
WE also noticed that the pool area wasn't clean like on other ships. There was debris (A band aid and the large stem from a bunch of grapes) next to chairs in the Solarium for five days.
