We have been exclusive Princess cruisers but when we saw the itinerary and the price for this cruise we thought we would try something new. Boy are we glad we did!
Embarkation was the best we have ever experienced. We showed up at 12:30pm, walked through security and waited less than 5 miniutes to check-in. We were onboard the SKY enjoying our vacation by 12:45.
Cabins were not going to be ready at 2pm so we checked our carry-on luggage at a drop-off point made our dinner reservations and headed to the pool. We bought a bucket of beer and soaked up the sun and music until just before the muster drill.
Muster drill was conducted outside at our lifeboat location without life jackets and wrapped up in less than 30 mins. It done well and had little impact on our day.
We booked a BB balcony cabin. It was small and the layout was awkward - 3-4 day cruise with 2 people is manageable but I would not like to do a 7 day or add a 3rd for that size of a cabin. Loved the balcony and had breakfast on it each morning...very relaxing.
Food seems to be a big point of discussion on the SKY. Our experience was mixed. The specialty dinning was out of this world good - food and service were perfect. The Palace Station was awful food was terrible and the service was soulless almost robotic and the lack of enthusiasm made me uncomfortable. Matt Baker was our Cruise Director and I must say he was the BEST CD we have ever experienced. Hard working, bright friendly and entertaining - very talented guy. Loved his harmonica playing and "fountains" for the final show.
