Summit Review , May 2, 2010

Sail Date: May 2010
Destination: Bermuda
Embarkation: Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

We had a great time and loved meeting so many great people. The weather was a bit iffy, but that happens. Booked two more cruises!

Loved our aft balcony (C1 -8172). If you can get one of these on a M-Class ship - do it! Balcony was about the same size as the room. We had a party for ten people and there was room for more.

Thought the Summit was in pretty good shape overall all, but ready for some refurbishing. Nothing that affected our enjoyment of the cruise (except for loose tiles on the shower floor - ick).

MDR food was okay - not as good as our previous cruises. As mentioned elsewhere - steak in the MDR is somewhat tough, some food is too salty. Food is very subjective, so some will disagree. Several table-mates returned meals to be reheated.

We did Select Dining - liked the flexibility and meeting different people and then planning to meet up with some of them again. Service at Select was not as good as when we did Traditional. Missed More getting to know the waiters.

The food at the Aqua Spa Cafe was excellent! Ate lunch there every day. They will make you things not on the buffet. And yes - anyone can eat there (breakfast and lunch).

The Normandie was AMAZING - ate there twice. Phenomenal service. Fabulous food. More than worth the extra cost. While the steaks in the MDR were iffy and tough, here they cut like butter - no steak knives! One of us tried the wine pairing each time. Also well worth it! An amazing way to try some really good wines. Kudos to Marko, Elvis, Rosebud, and Mutlou!

We did not really eat in the buffet area except for ice cream (lemon sherbet - mmmmmmmmmmm) and sushi. Took some trail mix and dried fruit up to our room in coffee cups - made a nice snack.

Loved the T-pool and whirlpools. The T-pool temp changed everyday, but it was still good.

Main deck pool area: Pool butler did a good job of keeping things clean. Chair hogging was not a noticeable problem - but it was cooler than expected. On the cooler days they had heavy plaid blankets as well as deck towels.

One afternoon we noticed a lot of security. Turned out a couple who had too much to drink were arguing and the wife also got nasty with a woman who just happened to be sitting nearby (the drunk wife not not like the way the drunk husband was looking at the pretty young woman who was just trying to read her book!) Security removed them from the deck. Not sure what happened after that but did hear that their ability to buy alcohol was revoked, and they might have been confined for a while. Thank you, Celebrity, for not putting up with that!

Had two spa treatments that I bought at auction. They were both excellent. HOWEVER - they tell you the regular price before bidding, but what you get is a shorter service. So per minute - not really a great deal. Something I will comment on to Celebrity. Again, the treatment were GREAT, but the "sale" price was misleading.

Our particular cabin steward was fairly mediocre, and we are not picky or demanding. Those in neighboring cabins agreed. A disappointment in Concierge Class - or any. The first time we did not tip extra.

Boarding process: Except for arriving at the busiest time(1pm),the boarding process was well organized. As Concierge class we did seem to get our luggage very quickly.

Disembarking: also went well.

Not a direct Celebrity thing: Had a bit of an issue with transportation back to NYC. Shuttle service at the pier changed the price after we got on (4 other people heard her original quote). After some arguing/ haggling ended up getting off and taking a cab. Didn't do much pre-cruise research on this (my bad), and will look more into it.

Bottom line: Yes, there are areas that need updating/refurbishing but overall a very nice ship. Overall very enjoyable. Looking forward to the Century (with a BFF) in Nov and the Eclipse (W the family) in Dec.

Hope this is useful! Sara Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Summit Concierge Class Penthouse Deck (6) 8172

8172 Concierge 1 Aft Balcony. Overall very good. Could hear any hallway conversation. Hope they could not hear us ;-). Shower stall needs badly to be re-tiled. Balcony railing should be sanded and resealed. Everything else was very good. Would def recommend Deck 8. Deck 9 is right under Aft bar, so 8 is a bit more removed from that.

Port and Shore Excursions

Bermuda: again some iffy weather, so we did much less then planned. Would love to go back. Seemed much cleaner and more prosperous than many of the Carribean ports.

I would be very, very happy to go back again. Those who did/saw more loved it.

The weather was bad so we choose not to do much. Saw Touro Synagouge - very interesting. Did not did to see mansions or Cliff Walk :-( becuase it was wet in the AM and I have a new hip (fear or slipping).

I would be very, very happy to go back again. Those who did/saw more loved it.
