I need to start off by saying we have been to Hawaii at least 7 times in 30 years. This was the first time we tried a cruise. I felt sorry for first timers, since in almost every port we docked by industrial containers and that is not a pretty sight. In Maui, which is beautiful, NCL could have anchored on the other side by Lahaina and tendered like other ships. This would have been so much nicer since we were there overnight. People could have just gone ashore and explored Lahaina without renting a car. We left the ship for the night and stayed at the Hyatt on Kaanapali beach where we always stay. That was probably the best part of the cruise. Kauai was not to bad but it was by the industrial containers again. If you were on the starboard side you stared at containers for 2 days.

We did not book any excursions since we have been there so many times before. We did rent cars on Maui and Hawaii and went to places that we enjoy.

The check-in process was very fast and easy, but that is where it stopped. When you walked on board into the main area it was very closed in and oppressive feeling. Heavy drapes and Victorian era furniture. Expected the ship to be very light with a feeling of Hawaii. Absolutely not the case. No feeling of being in the islands at all. The "sail-away" party on deck was accompanied by rock and roll music. Hawaiian music would have been wonderful and helped with the Aloha feel, which was totally lacking.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

Our cabin was as good as you can get on this ship without going into the big suites. Closet was almost unusable, somewhat noisy from the pool deck, hallway was very quite. Balcony was OK, but had a big overhang from pool deck which blocked the view somewhat. Jemma, our cabin steward was GREAT. Not enough drawers and almost impossible for 2 people to move around.
