My BF and I cruised on the Majesty of the Seas from April 19-23, stopping in Key West, Nassau and Coco Cay. We had a good time on this cruise, and it helped that the weather was great every day (No rain, thank God!) Overall the Royal Caribbean experience was a little better than I expected (having done a lot of research and read numerous reviews here on Cruise Critic). My primary concerns in a cruise experience are food and service, and I was neither disappointed nor greatly impressed this time. I found myself satisfied with the amenities and experience for the most part. I also took this exact same cruise in 2004. The renovation in 2007 did bring some improvements, especially to the Windjammer, and in general I would say it was money well spent. Ironically, I actually paid less this year than in 2004 - go figure. So from that standpoint, it was surely a good value.

Day One - flew to Miami and had no trouble catching a taxi to the port. Arrived about 3pm. It took approximately 30 mins to process our reservation, etc. We checked in online ahead of time as well. The porters took our suitcases, which were not delivered until about 5:30. They left the bags outside the room in the narrow hallway, which didn't make sense to me - the room attendants have keys to the room, why not put them inside the cabins? No big deal though. As luck would have it there were already 2 extra pillows in our stateroom on the 2nd level deck. We booked an interior cabin and it was cozy. Had the cruise been longer than 4 nights it would've been a challenge to find space for all our clothes and other belongings.

The first night we went to dinner in the Dining Room approx. 6:30 (although I chose the 6pm dinner slot). We were lead to our table where another couple was sitting and already eating. We introduced ourselves and tried to make conversation but didn't have much luck. Thankfully these 2 were farther along with their meal than we were and so we weren't with them the entire time. After they left my BF explained that he was extremely uncomfortable with having to sit with strangers. Me, I thought it was a bit awkward but not that bad. On my last cruise I enjoyed the Dining Room because I like to be served and treated like royalty, can you blame me? On the menu was an optional upgrade to an 8 oz filet mignon for $15. I told the dining room server this is what I wanted, but she pointed out there was also a top sirloin on the menu, so I went with that. It turned out the top sirloin was just okay, nothing special. I ordered it medium rare and it was a bit undercooked, but no big deal. I must say the dining room service was terrific, very informative and giving us just the right amount of attention. The food that night was fresh and served at the right temperature and at a nice pace. As it turned out, this would be the only night we ate dinner in the Dining Room. My BF wore jeans and got away with it, although that may technically be a no-no. The rules are "no shorts or caps/hats." I had to beg him to go along with this. I have mixed feelings about this policy. I think most people prefer to be casual and changing into khaki or dress pants is not ideal.
