Hello everyone, just back from the Freedom of the Seas April 18th, 2010 sailing. This was our 11th cruise and celebrating our 31st anniversary. Our fourth RCCL.
We flew from Lincoln Nebraska to Orlando FL. on April 17th, rented a van to take us to The Radisson on the port for our first night. Our room was nice, nothing great. Ate supper at Kelsey's right next to the hotel, it was very good.
Sunday April 18th we left by hotel shuttle (free) to the port around noon. The wait in line took about one hour..when you just thought you had gotten done with one line there was a new one to stand in. We didn't wait but a couple of hours for all of our bags to arrive to our room..and they even made it thru security (rum runners work!) Muster drill took about 30 minutes, no life vests. The ship was in beautiful condition! Our room was a balcony D2 suite with a very large bed. Alot of closet and drawer space. We had traditional seating at 6pm but we were disappointed when we arrived to find a table for four set up and we where the only people at our table that night. I had requested months in advance for a table with 8 people. We asked the Head waiter if we could sit with a larger group. Walked around the ship taking pictures and went to the first bingo session and to the welcome aboard show.
Monday April 19th..our first sea day. Very windy, we didn't even go outside that day. Picked up our ice show tickets in the morning. Checked out the casino which I won nine hundred dollars so we got to play on their money for the rest of the cruise. That evening at dinner we had a couple join us for dinner and they were our table mates for the remainder of the cruise.
Tuesday April 20th..first stop Labadee Haiti. My husband did the Dragon breath flight zip line and liked it alot. Spend the rest of the time at the beach..you really need water shoes here..which we had. Went to the ice show at 5pm..and it was wonderful! Don't miss it! Saw another show that night and it was very good.
Wednesday April 21st..our anniversary. This stop was Ocho Riocs Jamaica. We took the Dolphin swim and Dunn's river fall trip. We really liked the dolphin swim and my husband did the falls. Only thing we didn't like were the people wanting to sell you stuff and hounding you all the way back to the bus. We will probably never go back to Jamaica. That night we ate in the Portofino Italian Specialty dining room. We were very disappointing! At first they couldn't find our reservation which I had made several months ago. The food was just ok, the surroundings were awful. We sat by the galley kitchen and all we could hear were the pots and pans banging around and people talking. No extra attention at all here! We did Princess Italian specialty dining last year and were blown away. It was a seven course meal and we were pampered. We will never again do specialty dining again on RCCL. Tried Johnnys Rockets in the afternoon..which was ok.
Thursday April 22nd..Georgetown Grand Cayman. This was our favorite Island. We took a tour to the turtle farm which was nice. The weather was beautiful that day. Bought some diamond earrings at Effy's.
Friday April 23rd..Cozumel Mexico. We took the segway and snorkel tour. We really liked the segway which were easy to figure out after about 45 minutes of training. We rode them about 3 miles to a beach. From there you could stay at the beach resort or snorkel. We were taken about a mile from the resort and snorkeled all the way back! I was so worn out I could hardly get out of the water. The description of the tour never said you would have to work so hard and swim that mile in the ocean. We also had to ride the segways back another 3 miles. We returned to the ship to get cleaned up and went back into town. Kinda disappointed at Senior frogs and Carlos & Charlies..dumpy places. We missed dinner that night too tired.
Saturday April 24th..sea day. Windy outside again. My husband never did ride the flowrider. Every time we would go up there it was closed or way too busy. The food overall was just ok. Windjammer was always the same in the morning. We ate in the dining room for breakfast once. They had egg benedict but it wasn't on the menu. The dining room food was pretty good, nothing stood out except for the onion tart. Like I said about the Portofino's it was a waste of money! Check your compass for dining times.
Entertainment was the best of any cruise we have been on. Drew Thomas from America's got talent was excellent! And the acrobats where excellent too. Singers not so much but were good. Ice show was amazing as well. The parades down the promenade were always crowded and there were 800 children on board. We will probably pick a smaller ship next time..too many people.
We got off the ship pretty quickly we took the Kennedy space center tour with airport drop off. This was a excellent tour.
Had a wonderful time on the Freedom of the Seas. We will continue to use RCCL.
