First time on a Freedom Class ship. 5th RCL cruise and the most enjoyable to date. We enjoy staying in Grand Suites. Like most others we dont always spend that much time in the room but do enjoy the comforts of that size accomodation. Used the concierge service for a few things and to meet friends for a drink.
Enjoyed Labadee changes since our last visit three years ago. Used the private beach for suite guests but all of them look nice. Did not get a cabana but just two chairs under a thatched roof. Snorkeled and found the small plane just outside the roped swimming area. I am a diver and didnt expect much but was surprised. On the right side area looking out there is some coral and saw many fish. Trumpet, parrot, a big lobster, sea cucumber and butterfly fish to name a few. Lunch wasnt anything special but you can sit at a private table and it was nice and quiet as opposed to the large picnic style seating in the main lunch area. Shopped and was not hassled at all by the vendors. Pleasant surprise. Bought several items and paid at a central checkout area.
In Jamaica we did the Canopy Zip Line tour. I would do that again. A bus ride up the mountain where you gear up. You then have an 8-10 minute walk downhill to first zip line. Instruction on braking could have been better but everyone figured it out after a few times. There were 9 lines in all. They take pictures of you and you can buy a cd at the end. After the last line you walk for about 15-20 minutes thru the forest and in a beautiful park. Bus meets everyone at that spot. It was a dry sunny day. Should it be wet the walk down to get started would be slippery to say the least. And once you get going there is no turning back. Need to be in a little bit of shape for the walking. Read the negatives on Ocho Rios town area shopping but never saw anything. No one asked for money or to sell drugs, etc.
Did a trip with Stingray Sailings in Grand Cayman. Private tour and very good. Small group on a catamaran. Nice and efficient group to go out with. They were on time with everything and would highly recommend. They get good write ups on this board and Trip Advisor. Lots of great pics with the stingrays and a nice reef after to snorkle.
Just shopped in Cozumel (harassed a lot by shop clerks) and had a good lunch at Panchos.
We did My Time Dining and had a table for two. Did that for 4 nights and other three were at Chops and pizza. Dining room food isnt all that great but Chops was excellent. Service at both was good. Breakfast was room service on the balcony except for last morning. Quiet on the balcony and they were right on time each morning. Had lunch in main dining room and Johnny Rockets. Rest was off the ship.
Took a while but found a slot machine that liked me when I played dollars and a dealer helped me out while playing Let It Ride. Won a bunch. She was so helpful. Solo was her nickname.
Got treated to a tour of the bridge and its quite amazing to see.
Shows were good and Flowrider folks were fun to watch. Some of the little kids are great at this.
No big elevator lines or dinner waits. Bar service was quick. You just dont notice that there are 3000+ people on the ship. Even on sea days we had no trouble getting chairs at 9ish.
Bought a nice watch on the ship, watched the parade, tried the pizza ( I didnt care for it at all. Mainly a dough issue) ate ice cream and too many cookies while walking around.
Just a great trip. Had some choppy seas on Saturday but really felt nothing at all.
No trouble getting on or off ship. Easy parking at Pt. Can. ($105 for the week) Was given luggage tags that would get us off the ship real early Sunday so just went down to cust service and picked out some ones that allowed us to sleep in and get off at 8:45. (we live only 2 hours down the road so in no hurry)
Look forward to another cruise.
