What a great cruise!
It cost a little extra for me to fly to San Juan to start the trip (than to Ft. Lauderdale, for example) but it was worth it since San Juan was great. We stayed at the Doubletree (priceline.com), and it had a great (but small) pool area and spa and the entire hotel was very clean and updated, even with free laptops and wifi. We ate dinner in Old San Juan at a nice seafood place - very vibrant - Aquaviva, recommended by a local. On Saturday, we toured OSJ, including The Convent Hotel and El Morro, then stopped at the mall (Plaza des Americas, with 300 stores) for some forgotten items. What a great day!
We got on the ship at about 4 pm, but could have gotten on much sooner. The ship was mid-size and beautiful, and well maintained for it's age. Lots of fun places tucked around corners where you least expected them; after a week, I still don't think I found everything.
We had 3 adults in an inside stateroom. (It only saved each of us a very small amount each, but it thankfully made the cruise affordable for a 7th member of our group at the last minute.) The stateroom bunk only had a thin mattress...that could have been/should have been better. The shower was TINY! We couldn't even shave our legs hahaha. Other than that, there was a lot of storage and the couch area added valuable floor space to the cabin.
We were on the 4th floor, and some people in cabins near ours could hear the photo gallery music from above...I'd definitely rather stay on a higher floor next time.
We will upgrade to an outside stateroom next time - it's just so hard to tell what time it is in an inside room without daylight!
