My boyfriend (over 60 years old) who had been on about 5 cruises, decided to take me on a cruise. I thought a land vacation to the caribbean would be better, but he insisted on a Carnival Cruise, saying he had always enjoyed cruises when he was a little younger (54-55). I was 57 years old. Since everyone told me I'd like it, I said, "Why not?" and started to get excited about the whole process.

First - using the roll call for our cruise was one of the best things I did to enjoy the trip more! Make sure you do that. From what I can see, great people do the same thing and it is much more fun to know some people when you get on board. Our group planned a "Meet and Greet" that carnival helps you organize and it was great - cheap drinks due to the group size in a private setting. Everyone said "Pack light". I did pretty good, but in reality, there were some clothes I never wore. The most important items are bathing suits and cover-ups for the days at sea, and then second, nicer clothes for dinner time. A pair of shorts maybe for an excursion - and I didn't need all the shoes I brought! A pair of flip flops, tennis shoes(if you're going to exercise) and maybe heels and another misc pair of sandals/walking sandals should be all you will need. Read more
