RCCL Rocks

Sail Date: March 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

This was our third cruise, though the first with Royal Caribbean. It was also our first with baby, now 10 months. We chose Royal Caribbean since since they have the Royal Babies progam, which I will mention more later.

Embarkation was a breeze! We did not show up too early since we have a 5 hour drive to Galveston but it was still very busy. Luckily a very kind lady ushered us over to the line for disabled passengers (I guess since we had the baby in stroller and were struggling a bit) which was completely empty. We were on the boat within 20 minutes of arriving at the port.

The Voyager of the Seas is a beautiful ship. We were very impressed with the Promanade as Carnival has nothing like that. The staff were all wonderful. Our cabin steward was amazing and made the baby's pack-n-play so cute each night using his toys and such to decorate :). SOOOO many staff wanted to talk to and pat the baby, he was very popular with them all and absolutley loved the attention! More

We took advantage of the Royal Babies progam and really enjoyed it. There was structured play time with other babies then later the room was open for free play time. We loved meeting the other parents and our baby loved his new friends. We did not use the in-room sitter, but some other parents we talked to did and were pleased with it. I was a bit disappointed that we could not put the baby in any of the pools since he is not potty trained yet. We brought a blow up 1-ring pool and let him splash in it.

We only made it to the dining room 3 times due to baby napping at odd times. We enjoyed each meal there as well as the Promanade Cafe and buffet. We did eat at Johnny Rockets once and it was well worth the $5 charge! Baby very much enjoyed their dance performance :).

We did not see any shows, but I'm sure they were great. I did go to the spa for a fire and ice pedicure which was heavenly! We went to Chankanaub on our own in Cozumel for beach time and a fresh water pool for the baby. We bought an excursion for Cayman, but we did not go on it. The holding area for the excursions was just too crazy so we left the line and explored and shopped on our own. We also booked the Taste of Jamaica excursion in Jamaica which was wonderful! Great tour of a plantation home, sugar mill, and jerk chicken lunch accompanied by live music. This tour was perfect for baby since it was fairly short (4 hours) and on an air conditioned bus!

Debarkation was a bit of a mess since we were delayed until about 5PM due to fog. The staff handled it very well though considering. They very nicely opened up the internet and phone lines free of charge for passengers to make necessary flight and hotel arrangements. They served breakfast and lunch as well.

Overall, we really enjoyed our Royal Caribbean vacation and will certainly be back! Less

Cabin review: Voyager of the Seas Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom Deck 6 8216

Our cabin was the first balcony cabin at the front of the ship. We had great views, no noise though still close enough to elevator access.

Port and Shore Excursions

We love to visit Chaunkanaub when stopping in Cozumel. They have many different experiences such as dolphin encounters, snorkel, snuba, scuba, a fresh water pool, drinks and great food.

This port is beautiful as well though shopping and dining are expensive.

We love Montego Bay. We have done a tour to Sandals which was excellent and we have done a tour to a plantation home.
