A big (positive) surprise

Sail Date: December 2009
Destination: Panama Canal & Central America
Embarkation: Miami

Perhaps this was the perfect moment to cruise with the Journey: at the time when they upgraded their service to semi-luxury and before the price hike. In any case, our experience was dramatically better than what we expected from lukewarm reviews and ratings posted all over the web.

Fantastic: food in specialty restaurants, at $5 surcharge per person. We spent there almost every evening.

Great: crew, service, and the atmosphere they created. When Norwegian lost our luggage in the previous back-to-back cruise, they were extremely helpful to get it back. Food in the buffet and the main room. Cabins: not very spacious but very nicely organized and pleasant.

Ok: butler (= upgraded steward). Entertainment was ok to solid.

Not so good: excursions. The excursions director was funny and informative but the quality of some excursions was horrible. Well organized, nice balcony.

Port and Shore Excursions

The best experience: the cruise around the Acapulco's coast. The villas and the entire coastline is beautiful!

The Columbian Cartagena does not offer too much to a visitor but everything is at least decently organized. The fortress is the highlight.

Horribly organized excursions and a poor, sad place overall. They have many beautiful spots and could have managed them better. The bay our ship was docked was fantastic.

The port is hardly spectacular but it is a a nice departure point for a trip to one of the Costa Rica's parks. The prices of souvenirs are very reasonable.
