Great Family Vacation - Fun had by all
Destination: Western Caribbean
Returned on March 20 from a wonderful 7-day cruise on the Carnival Liberty. Family of 4, parents in mid 40's, 15 yr old and 11 yr old. First time Carnival cruisers, previous 2x on NCL. Preferred Carnival experience to NCL, staff more friendly, superior level of service and food was better quality.
Used SAS to transport us from Ft. Lauderdale on March 13 to Port of Miami, excellent service provided by Larry for our group of 7. Somewhat of long line at Port terminal, but it kept moving. Took probably an hour to get on the ship. Once on board had a welcome on drink, some lunch and than got access to our cabin.
Cabin was balcony on 6th floor, portside. Family of 4, our teenage daughter slept on bunk and son slept on convertible couch. Everything was good, cabin steward kept cabin immaculate and provided excellent service.
1st sea day was somewhat crowded on deck but found a decent spot on deck 12. 1st port of call...Cozumel, visited Iberostar Cozumel for day More where my daughter and I dove while wife and son hung out at pool and enjoyed beautiful day and weather. Next Port of call Grand Cayman, booked dive excursion through Carnival, was a bit crowded on the dive boat but overall acceptable. Wife and son participated in Sting Ray City and beach excursion booked through Carnival. They found too much time spent in the boat travelling to Sting Ray location and than another 25 minutes to beach. Third port of call, Ocho Rios was beautiful, lush and green and good weather. Booked Dunn's River Falls and Water Tubing with Peat Taylor tours for $50.00. Was a great deal and good service, returned to the ship singing Bob Marley tunes. Would recommend Peat Taylor tours to anyone. Last sea day somewhat windy but nice and sunny.
Food was wonderful and great service on Carnival. There were lines at time however they moved quickly and you must keep in mind it was spring break. We had 6:00 seating in MDR, which not happy with initially as we had requested the "your time" option however it was full. Since our previous cruising experience was with NCL, we did not want set timing, however as the week went by, we really enjoyed. It provided us with an opportunity to know the wait staff and them an opportunity to get to know us and what we liked and disliked enabling them to provide a better level of service. The shows were great, and Butch the Cruise Director did a great job. This was a great family vacation and we now know why Carnival has the reputation as the Fun Ships. We have already booked next March break on the Miracle. Less
