Glorious Glory!!

Sail Date: March 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

This was our 15th cruise and just 2nd with Carnival. We love anytime dining and this now being available, as well as price and itinerary were the deciding factors in booking Carnival again.

I believe the "party" ship reputation has had a negative impact on Carnival, however, it is definitely the "Fun Ship". Entertainment awesome and varied. James the Cruise Director did a great job and there was something for everyone. Disco, karaoke, juggler, comedy club, Latin music, piano bar, reggae pool band, show band and fabulous production shows. There seemed to be music everywhere and really appreciated the music venues playing for longer periods of time than on other lines, especially in the early evening, pre and post dinner. Some days it was noon to 5 for the pool band and when the kids on spring break were dancing and asking for more played another 45 minutes one afternoon. I've seen people complain about the partying on ships but if you want a quieter crowd, don't go when it's More spring break!

The Glory is kept very well-kept and clean. Have never experienced the outdoor movie theatre before and thought it would be a distraction when you're trying to relax on the deck but enjoyed the nature images that were played throughout the day. We wouldn't go to watch movies but several people seemed to really enjoy the opportunity.

The food was definitely a cut above NCL, Holland America and Celebrity. Dining room had great variety, presentation and taste. There was never a time we didn't have to make a choice between a couple of appetizers, entrees and desserts that we really wanted to have. The hostesses and dining room staff were wonderful and even though we had "Your Time Dining", just asked for our favorite waiter Somchai. Even if we had to wait it was worth it to get his excellent service. He managed to work very quickly getting our food to us, always remained relaxed and friendly and was great in the dance they did each night.

We only eat at the buffet when not able to make it to the dining room and found the food there to be consistently good. It was greatly appreciated that the buffet was kept open extended hours on port days so when we got back after 3:00 were still able to get a nice lunch. Really enjoyed the pizza and ice cream too! Only complaint we had was that there are no hand sanitizers at the entrances to the buffet or at the other stations. In this day and age when some ships are kept in port to do extra sanitizing because of Norwalk outbreaks it's hard to imagine a cruise line that doesn't have them everywhere people are touching utensils and food. Hopefully this will be corrected in the near future.

Had dinner in the Emerald Steakhouse which we reserved before leaving home and Karolina did a great job of making sure the arrangements were complete for the birthday celebration we were having. The food was the best we've had in any up charge restaurant on any ship and the service was impeccable.

On sea days or later sail-ins we enjoyed having room service breakfast on the balcony. There was a nice variety and was delivered either early or right on time which was greatly appreciated.

Our cabin was very roomy with lots of storage. In all our our 15 cruises this was the best cabin steward we've every had, and we've had some excellent stewards. GeDe looked after us like we were royalty! From the first day he called us by name and even remembered other family member names when they were coming and going. He's a very hardworking guy who takes great pride in doing a wonderful job. Towel "art" every night too! He and his partner kept our cabin gleaming and always well stocked, being careful to work around the times we were there for restful mornings, happy hours and sail aways.

Ports of call were very nice. Visited the ruins in Tulum while in Cozumel and they were amazing, did reef fishing in Belize which was really fun, visited the beach in Roatan, which is beautiful and took a city tour in Grand Cayman which gave a really good overview of Georgetown. Only new port was Roatan but still really enjoyed them again.

I noticed that the tours on the Carnival Shore Excursion website were incomplete and several others were available when the brochure arrived in the cabin. We prefer to have everything booked in advance so we don't have to waste anytime while on board so it was disappointing that the website wasn't complete. I also had trouble with one that I'd booked that had an inaccurate description which changed on the website a couple of weeks before we sailed. Perhaps more attention could be paid in this area making sure it's accurate and complete.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the cruise and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We mistakenly had the impression that Carnival wasn't quite on par with the other lines we'd sailed on during the 10 years since we were on the Sensation. Everyone in our group of eight, even with the age range from 39 to 74 had an awesome time and couldn't say enough positive comments about the food, service and entertainment on the Glory. We would not hesitate to cruise on Carnival again and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great cruise experience. Less

Beautiful, convenient location. Lots of storage and great layout. Quiet location and were able to takes stairs to dining, buffet, pools, etc.

Port and Shore Excursions

Nice port for a drink or shopping for souvenirs. Wouldn't suggest going off on your own but definitely should to do a tour to see the area. The air boat in the mangroves and reef fishing were both excellent.

Have snorkled and visited Chakkanaub Park. This time took the ferry ride to Playa del Carmen and visited the ruins in Tulum. Well worth the trip and the beach is beautiful. Views are breathtaking.

Fourth time in Grand Cayman. Loved swimming with the Stingrays, Seven Mile Beach is one of the most beautiful I've seen and City Tour gives great overview. Georgetown is a great area to shop and everything is close. Very safe to walk around on your own.

Went in a couple of days ahead and toured with Miami Tours for a City Tour and Biscayne Bay Boat Tour. Great tour which was a bit off the beaten track making it very interesting. Our guide Jim also gave us lots of information when the narration that ran on the bus wasn't going.

Would highly recommend taking some time to tour the city and see the beautiful architechture, fabulous homes on the islands/

Mahogany Bay Beach area is beautiful. Lots of shops, great spot for drinks, no shortage of lounges, which are free or shade. Very clean and being brand new everything is well kept. Rode the "flying chairs" which are really ski-lift seats. Were good for taking pictures but the walk is no problem. Wouldn't pay the price again for the chair. Was $5.00 when it opened, raised to $8.00 in February and going up to $10.00 soon. Thought it overpriced.

Beautiful port for a beach day and tours were available also.
