Rocked Us To Sleep

Sail Date: March 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We had a great time on the Westerdam, as first time cruisers my wife and I had some aprehensions of what it would be like and what to expect. As soon as we got into our stateroom and went out onto the balcony we looked at each other and said we will do this again. Our seven day Western Caribbean Cruise on the Westerdam was far to short it just sped by like a dream.

As soon as we got into our stateroom and went out onto the balcony we looked at each other and said we will do this again. Our seven day Western Caribbean Cruise on the Westerdam was far to short it just sped by like a dream.

The food and service where 4 star and the entertainment that we picked to go to was very good. My wife enjoyed the spa and Crows nest and I was happy with all aspects of the ship and crew.

There were a couple of negatives but the More positives far out weighed these. Biggest issues we had:

The tendering to Cozumel and the number of ships in port when we where there. (Seven) Way too many people in the port area. Our shore excursion was out of the city so that helped a lot in buffering any negatives we had and the snorkelling we did was awesome.

We are mid fifties and found that there where a few too many children on board for our liking. Having babies crying through lunch and supper was a bit much on a couple of days. But from what we where told the number of kids is just the luck of the draw on a cruise.

These two issues where not big enough with us to be critical of the cruise.

Will cruise again with Holland America we thought it was a class act. Less

Cabin review: Westerdam Deluxe Verandah Oceanview Upper Promenade 7130

Nice size stateroom, balcony was excellent, nice to have shower and tub. Cabin located on Port side near stern found that stack gas blew down on us some evenings because of wind direction. Would consider moving closer to the bow, but we did like our over all location.

Port and Shore Excursions

Way to many people in port for our liking. Seven ships was just to many. Did enjoy our Shore Excursion once we got out of Cozumel. Snorkeling was great.

Would go to the Mayan Ruins next time.

Really liked Grand Cayman. The ambience and shops downtown and at the tender area was good. Our area tour was interesting and the Shore Excursion Driver was funny and informative.

Would go on our own next time.

Interesting tour of the Island but found a real dividing line between rich and poor. The Island is still recovering from a hurricane in 2008. Wanted to spend more time in the craft market downtown but because of shore excursion schedule we couldn't.

Would go into town on our own next time.
