Travel and Embarkation

For the very first time we were traveling the day of the cruise. I was nervous that something would go wrong, but it was painless. We flew from Detroit to San Juan and had transportation from the airport to the ship booked with Celebrity. Celebrity did not send us voucher for the transfer however, so we had to get him to look us up on his list. About 20 minutes or so and we were at the dock. It was not at the main port in old San Juan but across the water at the small airport. This made it impossible to explore old San Juan before the cruise left without taking a taxi. The line was long when we got there at about 2 p.m. It took about an hour to get through line #1 (getting your card) and line #2 (security) but we made it on board for our welcome glass of champagne. Our room was ready so we headed there and then went to check on our dining table assignment. We asked for a change and received it for the second night. The first evening was assigned so we went to the original table and found ourselves with two other couple who could not speak English. The German coupe left immediately claiming that they wanted a table for two! We dined with a French Canadian couple who were very nice and wanted to practice their English.
