We are just back from our March 6th Western Caribbean cruise on the Crown Princess which scheduled port calls in Grand Cayman, Roatan, Cozumel, and Princess Cays. Overall, it was a nice cruise though the weather was less than cooperative. This is our fourth recent cruise and the second on the Crown Princess. We thought the ship to be in fine condition as it was two years before.

Embarkation: We flew into Fort Lauderdale a day early and stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport North. The Hampton has free pickup at the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise port at Port Everglades. We arrived at the port at approximately 11:00 and proceeded to the VIP check-in area where we were quickly processed and able to board and be in our cabin before noon. The process was as smooth as can be and lunch was ready in the Horizon Court buffet to enjoy before we sailed.

Cabin: Several weeks before sailing, Princess upgraded us from a mini-suite to the Ochos Rios Suite (E732) on the Emerald deck. We were a bit concerned as this suite is at the rear of the ship and is above Club Fusion and we were wondering about the noise from the Club and ship's propulsion as well as the motion. The cabin is double-wide with a balcony that looks straight down to the ship's wake. The bathroom is split with a Jacuzzi/shower in one section and toilet/sink in the other. Once in awhile, we could hear some music from Club Fusion while in the bathroom but that was the only time. On the balcony while underway, the sound is that of a waterfall though it cannot be heard with the balcony door closed in the cabin. The balcony has four chairs, a small table, and two loungers. Considering the rough weather we encountered, there was some up/down and side-to-side motion, but nothing to be concerned about. When the ship was using its rear side thrusters for docking at port, there was substantial vibration and noise in the cabin, but those periods are relatively brief. The cabin is nicely appointed and we received several baskets of fruit, a one-day bar setup, and free internet (use either with own computer or at the Internet Center on Deck 5). For me, the bed was "comfortably hard" which was a little too firm for my wife. Rio was our Cabin Steward who was great.
