Carnival Liberty - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: February 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We Cruised the Carnival Liberty leaving out of Miami on February 27, 2010. We found our rooms very clean comfortable. Our parents had a balcony which was nice and we had an interior room which was was sufficient for all the time we spent there. The entire staff from stateroom stewards to cruise director and Captain were very friendly and made their cruisers the number one priority.

We are not refined folk and are certainly not experts when it comes to food but we enjoyed every bit of the food selection. We ordered room service continental breakfast in our rooms on three separate days and each day it arrived hot and on time. Had the fish and chips, pizza and sat at the Golden Olympian Dining Room as well as the Lido Buffet. Lot of food selection from healthy to not so healthy. Service in the dining room was great with good portion sizes and lot of variety.

Room was cleaned twice a day with evening turn down service and chocolate mints. Laundry Service was available More although we did not take advantage of this. Nice Bathroom with new fixtures and hairdryer in room. Lots of closet space in room for two. Comfy bed with nice pillows and daily schedule for ships events greeted us each night upon returning to our room. We ventured up to the aft section of the boat several days for the chairs there as the mid pool on the Lido deck (9) was always full by the time we got up. We watched the Canadian vs American gold medal hockey game on our big screen on the deck and they showed movies every night up there with blankets to cuddle with.

The ship always had something to do and we really enjoyed the rock show and Asad the hypnotist. This would be a great trip for the young and old in all. Just bring your Gravol or motion sickness meds of choice as we hit some rough water the first night and were feeling a bit queasy when we woke up the next AM. Carnival is a family cruise ship with parties and we would recommend it to anyone. We did not experience the spa or Harry's steakhouse so can't comment on those but they seemed nice. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Liberty Interior Empress 7237

We had an interior cabin. It included a King bed with a bathroom and lots of closet space for the week. Clean bathroom and we didn't need anymore than what we had.

Port and Shore Excursions

In Cozumel we went to Isla Pasion with Twister and had an amazing experience. I will say this was a wet, wet experience and it involved high speeds and lots of rocking so if you have any issue with those things or amazing Mexican food and all inclusive rum punch, margaritas and beer you should stay away. The boat crew were awesome and the island crew were also great.Nice little hopping village right off the pier and we got off the boat twice and back on with no difficulty.

In Grand Cayman we rented a vehicle and drove to Rum Point Beach which the locals tell us was the best beach on the island. The day we arrived we unable to go into the area of Georgetown as the water was very rough. Our crew parked us in Spots Bay for the day and we made the best of it although many people's excursions got cancelled. The island is very small and exploring it would be very easy. Most currency is accepted in Grand Cayman dollars which are 1.20 for every American dollar so be prepared to spend more.

In Ocho Rios we took the Dunn River Falls and Bamboo Beach Club excursion. We found that we were very unprepared for this excursion. Bring water shoes or expect to get sneakers soaked. You will appreciate the tread. Flip flops and crocs will not do. The climb of the falls is not recommended for small children or those with any physical ailments. This required a lot of physical effort and we were soaked from head to toe. There will be a film crew trying to get you to buy their DVD which you get warned about and buy at your own risk, however they'll try to get the best shots of you and splash you like crazy to get you in the water. You will quickly learn that the vendors can be forceful and make you feel guilty for not purchasing their things. Ocho Rios is a beautiful area and the Bamboo Beach club gals that took us on our tour and trip were helpful and busy. They like you to sit so you can be served your food but be patient and you'll get to try everything along with potent drinks and yummy Red stripe beer! They danced and sang for us and the beach was really nice.
