Bye Bye Winter!!

Sail Date: February 2010
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

For my husband and I this is our second cruise on Explorer, we had a wonderful time going to Bermuda so we were excited to sail on her again.

Embarkation...accessing this port doesn't seem as smooth as NYC and Miami but with all the snow we received days prior to departure we guessed everyone had the same idea to get to the Port early and ultimately, at the same time. So there were longer delays then we experienced on our past trip to Bermuda...

Our cabin was 1530 on the 10th Deck which is the last cabin before the bridge...everything about this cabin was great..the location, the cabin itself, and most importantly our attendant Shermin. She was a fantastic attendant and person!!

All RC staff was great, no complaints, all very professional and friendly....

Dining and entertainment was good, never had any issues with the food, shows were good, particularly enjoyed our cruise director Dave during the Love and Marriage game, the Belly Flop contest More and the Cooking Demonstration...his interaction with the guests was very funn!! Had a great time at the Pool Party and the Parades in the Royal Promenade! and don't miss the Ice Skating Shows they are great!!

Our 4 stops were..

San Juan...82 and sunny....been there before nothing really caught our eye to do specifically but after being at sea we just wanted to walk and stretch! Saw people doing the Segway Tours that looked like fun! Did some shopping and enjoyed taking pics of the ships in port....

St Thomas...87 and sunny..2nd time there, first on our list was the skyride, had a perfect day and the view was spectacular, there were 6 ships in port and we were excited to see the Oasis off in the distance...that view NEVER gets old! From there we did the excursion to Megans Bay, alot has changed there in the past 7 years since we were there, with so many more cruise ships now it looked like Coney Island for sure! Disappointing but enjoyed the hot sun and swimming, anything was better than being home and shoveling! This port has the best shopping too!!

Samana, Dominican Republic......87 and sunny...first time there...prebooked the Cayo Levandato excursion thanks to reviews on here.....loved it!!! great beach, another hot sunny day, it was perfect! We heard that the town itself is just a small fishing village with not much to do....our tender boat took us straight to the island then directly back to the ship so don't know for sure.

Labadee.....our first time there also, unfortunately this last stop we had light rain but still had fun exploring, there are 3 beaches, Adreneline beach which is on the ocean side, great for sunbathing and watching the zip liners.....this beach has alot of rocks so not really good for kids, at the breaker however there is room to just cool off and did see some people snorkeling.....Columbus Cove is more on a bay, calmer and nice for swimming this is also where the Aqua Park is....in between is Barefoot Beach Club is a private area for suite guests with cabannas, and Nellies beach by the Bell Tower is a nice cove also great for swimming.....we had fun watching the zipliners and wished I had done it!!! Next time for sure!!! I saved souvenier shopping to do at Labadee hoping that every $1 would help! The market was nice and BBQ was good! There are tramcars that bring you around the island to and from the pier entrance.

Disembarkation....you are assigned a meeting area for your color and time.....this part of it was crazy piling into the dining room but once the numbers started getting called it was smooth sailing off! So patience is necessary for sure!

We had alot of fun on this trip, it was nice to get away from winter for awhile......we met so many great people from all parts of the USA and Canada....everyone we met was having a great time!

The only down side was the rougher seas leaving and entering the northeast region, I usually take 1 Bomine a day and works fine during the summer/calmer months, this time I needed 2 the first and last full sea day that part was not fun....this was the only complaint from others we heard.

Cant wait to plan our next cruise!! = ) Less
