Great way to get away from the cold.

Sail Date: February 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

This was our 10th cruise and we love cruising. We drove to New Orleans on Friday and enjoyed a full day of eating and drinking in one of our favorite cities on Saturday. On Sunday we left our hotel around 11:30 and found the boarding process to be quick and easy. We immediately went to the Windows to eat lunch. After lunch, we toured the ship until the time that our cabin was ready (around 2:00). We were welcomed by the staff everywhere we went. In fact, we found the entire staff to be friendly and helpful the entire cruise. Many of them learned our names and would greet us by name whenever they saw us.

Cabin: Since we spend a minimal amount of time in our cabin, we do not worry about the location, etc. We were on deck 5, aft, and we like this location. It is always quiet. Our cabin was adequate with all the things that we needed. Our stewards were attentive and friendly. Our cabin was always clean and supplied with fresh towels. Our stewards greeted us by name also. More

Food: We ate in the Raffles for breakfast, Windows and Garden Room for dinner, and snacked at the Blue Lagoon. We also paid extra to eat at LeBistro and the Asian restaurant which we found to be well worth the price. We thought that the food was good and really enjoyed the late night french fries in the Blue Lagoon. Our only disappointment was in the desserts. As we rarely have dessert, we always splurge on cruises and eat them every night. The desserts were not "spectacular"-just so-so. We also did the Sake and Sushi one day and it was interesting and informative. A fellow cruiser said that they did this before and were given all the sushi they wanted-that is not so now as we were limited to the amount we were given. There were 6 in our party and we ate late in the dining rooms and never had to wait.

Drinks: They did not skimp on the amount of alcohol in the drinks! We did the martini tasting and that is alot of alcohol for someone who does not drink alot. Beware!

Entertainment: We did not attend many of the shows because we feel like the shows are the same as the ones we have seen many times(just with different people). We did go to the Duo Actobatique show and if you have not seen a Cirque du Soleil, you would be impressed. If you have, not too exciting. We did enjoy the dancing, the Quest, and the live music the last day out by the pool area. You can always find something to do. Disembarkation: One of the easiest we have had. Quickly on our way home.

Overall, we had a fun filled week and would go again. I hope this helps future cruisers as the reviews before we left helped us prepare. Less

Small but adequate. Needs more lighting as it was a little dark in the room and the bathroom. Bring hangers especially ones for pants. Quiet-we always like this location as we find it quiet. Plenty of room under bed for suitcases. Could use a little more drawers/shelves but not sure where they could put it.

Port and Shore Excursions

We were surprised at the long tender ride to the pier! It is about a 15-20 minute ride. We did the Zip line/Cave tubing through NCL. It began with a short ride through the city then headed out of town for approximately a 45 minute bus ride to the rain forest area. The zip line and tubing was fun. The lunch served there was good. When we arrived back at the dock, we had time to shop before boarding. The prices on the cashew wine and the hot sauce were cheaper at the dock than at the park!

Again, this was a repeat of previous cruises. We had been to see the ruins so we opted to take the taxi to Majahual. Be prepared to be constantly asked to purchase merchandise, food, drinks and massages as you walk along the boardwalk. We did stop and eat at one restaurant that offered free phone calls with your meal. I had a $3.00 margarita, some good fish tacos and called my family at home (where they were having snow). It is a little overwhelming with the merchants but we just kept walking and saying no thank you. The beach area is pretty but the town part is not!

We had been to Cozumel before and had also taken the same excursion the last time we were there. We did the snorkel/party boat which is alot of fun. You snorkel for approximately 45 minutes then they start serving the complimentary margaritas or beer. We stopped for about an hour at a small beach area (with more drinks)! Back to the pier and hopefully you can get off the boat. We then walked around the city and shopped some. Easily walked back on the ship.

So, there is no choice for Santo Tomas on the website. We did not do anything here but walk to the warehouse type building that housed the merchants. There are beautiful linens, purses, ornaments, jewelry, etc. here and bags of coffee. I regret that I did not shop more as the prices were better than at some of the other ports. We did purchase coffee to bring home as gifts. As we saw nothing of the area (due to warnings that it was not safe), I cannot give an opinion. This dock area is a commercial one and not very scenic.
