Eurodam cruise Feb 27th

Sail Date: February 2010
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Arrived at the port by 12:30 and were on board in a matter of minutes. Our room was ready at 1:45, VA balcony room on the port side, 8 floor. Even though we were right behind the elevators we were never bothered by any noise. If anything we were located under the buffet which got a bit noisy in the early morning but it was manageable.

We enjoyed breakfast in our room every morning and it was always on-time but not always warm, a couple of days items we requested were left off. Food in the main buffet restaurant was fair to good, always a generous selection. We only ate in the main restaurant once for dinner and service was SLOW, I mean our finished dinner plates sat in front of us for 20 minutes before being asked if we wanted coffee, and then that took another 15 minutes to get. They did send us some chocolate covered strawberries for our trouble the next day.

We had dinner once in the Tamarind and three nights in the Pinnacle grill. The food and service was More exemplary, well worth the extra fee. Only one night we tried to get into the Grill without reservations and were told not till 9 pm even thought the restaurant was not even half full.

My biggest beef was the hot tubs on board, the two on the stern never got the jets working so it was just a hot water tub, no bubbles.

The ship is on the small side, so if you get seasick use caution. It just seemed to roll more than the NCL Jewel did. The casino, where we spent way too much time, is small and they don't always have the game you want to play open but they did accommodate me one night by closing the let-it-ride game and opened up Caribbean stud.

The room stewards did a great job of keeping the room ready for us. We went to a couple of the shows and they were OK, but I must say the magic act was phenomenal, I mean he lives on a ship with his wife, two young kids, two dogs and a few birds. Now that's a magic act. But seriously his illusions were outstanding!!!

All in all we would probably take another Holland America cruise in the future. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Not much to write about, the cruise port shops were OK. Margaritaville, we didn't partake. The place was clean, but we were back on board in an hour or so.

Here we did the horseback ride into the rain-forest of El Yunque. Outstanding!! The horses we rode were Paso Fino's, which means "fine steps". They were very gentle, stayed in line, most of the time, mine did like to trot allot, which really made the trip fun. The guides were experienced and very helpful.

We went into the port shops to see about buying some rum and smokes and the salespeople were telling another couple they could take back 5 cartons of smokes duty free, which is not the truth. I did step in and confront him about this and then we just left.

Later that evening we went to the casino at the Sheraton and filled our pockets with some winnings from there slot machines which made for a fun time.

Here we did the catamaran snorkel trip aboard the castaway girl 2. The ships crew were great, they handled their boat very well in some pretty rough seas, I'd say 6 to 8 ft swells. We got wet but then , it's a snorkel trip!! We had some rum punch on the way back and other snacks. We had a great time with them!
