We drove from Sarasota and stayed overnight on Friday in Miami. Left for the ship @ 12.30 on the shuttle offered by the hotel and got to the port at 1 o'clock. We were offered champagne or orange juice upon entering the ship and we were in our cabin on Panorama deck by 1.30. Very easy pre-boarding routine, well organised. Safety role call was a pleasant experience, compared to other cruises we have taken. This was our 6th and we have been on a ship when an emergency was called so don't complain about this little bit of hassle that you have to do, it is very worthwhile. This ship is a smaller older model, but considering that fact it is an extremely smooth sailing ship. The concierge cabin we booked towards the aft section was a little on the small side (compared to Princess mini-suites) but nevertheless had a decent veranda. We reserved Celebrity select dining and by doing this gratuities are prepaid, which I think is a great idea. Our cabin steward was friendly and kept the room in super shape. With select dining you do not get the same waiters etc, but whoever we had was really good. Food was decent and selection was more than enough. We did visit Murano's and as posts on this site have stated - GO - it really is wonderful. We got to most of the shows and enjoyed what we saw, in particular the two comedians. Michael's bar is in a class of it's own and the Martini bar is the fun one. The casino is a decent size and we did have a little bit of slot luck, which was unusual compared to our other cruises. We did the kitchen tour, mind boggling what these folks can do behind the scenes. Went to a mixology lesson (have Boom Boom make you a cocktail in the Martini bar) and the Improv talk, both very good. The ports visited were OK, no fault of the ship, we have been to Jamaica a couple of times previously and if you don't want to do Dunn's Falls (we had climbed it before) there isn't a great deal else to do. Cayman was scheduled for the next day but we were not allowed ashore due to choppy seas, this is a decision taken by the tender boat folks and no ship was allowed to anchor that day. We set sail for a next day visit to Key West instead. Unfortunately this turned out to be a fiasco for us. I wont go into detail but it was not good organisation by US customs or the crew. I have given them the benefit of the doubt due to the fact it was a last minute decision to get in an extra day in port, hopefully Celebrity have learned from this if the issue crops up again! All in all a nice cruise, we did enjoy the ship and the service offered by Celebrity. We primarily took this cruise to check out the cruise line, we had been told by a travel agent friend to give them a try as she thought it would suit our style a little more, and she was spot on. We have sailed twice with Princess and Carnival and have figured out that Princess to be a similar style of cruising with maybe more families on Princess and Carnival geared more to the party party types and to younger children. We are not old fuddy duddies by any stretch but Celebrity suited us just fine thank you very much. My recommendation is to take Celebrity if you are looking for a somewhat relaxing/classier type of cruise.
