Sail Date: Aug 2004
Traveled with children

We were on the August 29, 2004 sailing of this magnificent ship. I would say that this is the most spectacular cruise that my family has been aboard. My only problem would be the spectacular scenery kept me on deck much of the time, and I cannot offer much in the way of review on the onboard activities.

CABIN: We were on the Aloha Deck aft which I really like for three reasons. We were just a few steps from the Terrace pool area which affords a fascinating view to the rear. Also, we are one deck down from the Horizon Buffet (a great place to eat is on the outside deck, here you are sheltered from the wind, but still able to enjoy the fresh air.). Also our cabin was two decks down from the kids FUN ZONE. Our kids participate in this with great enthusiasm. We opt for inside cabins for economic reasons (we can go on more cruises this way). Besides, we spend so little time there, it makes no sense to me to spend all that extra money.

DINING: I can't understand why many of the previous reviews of this ship have bashed the food. I found no fault with anything that I put in my mouth. The Horizon Buffet was good food that was very well presented. A worth note: they have installed hand sanitizer stations an the entrances to the buffet line. One more big step in the prevention of the spread of disease. The staff here were most helpful, and the drink service was wonderful. We chose traditional dining because that is such a longstanding tradition on cruise ships. Not only do you get to know your wait staff, but you can become fairly well acquainted with the other guests at your table. Our waiter team was lead by a dynamite lady from Romania named Oana. She is friendly and interacted with my children and really gave them special care. As a waiter she is tops. Makes sure your glasses are kept full. She won't let you pour your own wine, however. The guests at our table were scolded a couple of times for pouring. If you even acted interested in seconds, or interested in trying another entree, it was at you table before you got a chance to say no. If you sail on this ship prior to the end of December 2004 (end of her contract) I would tip the head waiter, and ask to be seated at here table. A special treat I assure you. By the way, the food was great.
