This was our 17th cruise, the 12th to the caribbean and 5th on Celebrity. Since we live in Atlanta, we drive down to Florida and extend our vacation by a few days. We stayed at the Hampton Inn at Cypress Creek which was about 20 minutes north of Port Everglades. It was fine. The new terminal 18 is great. We dropped off our bags and parked just across the street from the drop off point. We zipped through check in and after a short wait were on the ship. The whole process took less than an hour. We did not book Aqua Class or Concierge Class. Celebrity is billed as a premium line and I wonder why you have to pay extra for premium service? I guess we were considered premium Steerage Class. In any event we had the run of the ship. One thing very evident was the lack of kids on board. Also evident was the abundance of every make and model of walkers, both foreign and domestic. And what is the deal with these electric scooters? They seemed to be everywhere being used by people who did not appear to be handicapped. Again I witnessed a man force his way on to a crowded elevator with a scooter and run over a persons foot. The ship itself does not have much "pop" or "zip" when compared to a ship like the Independence that we sailed on last year. The cabin appeared to be smaller than other ships and shelf space in the bathroom and desk area was very limited. The veranda size was OK and the furniture was nice and comfortable. Only problem when you looked down you saw the tops of the life boats. We also experienced a foul odor when getting off the aft elevator on the 8th floor starboard side. It was nasty. Food in Silhouette was what you would expect when trying to feed 2800 people in a few hours. Selection, presentation, and quality was OK.The days of gourmet food on cruise ships is gone. The Oceanview Cafe had a huge selection for breakfast and lunch that included my favorite English Banger Sausages. Service in the resturants was very good. Entertainment was OK. The Corning Hot Glass Show was unique for a cruise ship. The ports were fair. Roatan and Cozumel were OK. Colon is getting to look like a dump. Didn't feel safe there. We didn't do any tours since we have been to these ports many times in the past. One last comment on the subject of tipping. We elected to have tips added to our on board account. On the last night, we asked for the slips and envelopes to give to the waiters, cabin attendants, etc. Was told they don't do that any more. The people know what they are getting. How impersonal can you get? Disembarkation was a breeze We were off the ship, through customs with our luggage, and driving off the pier in about 30 minutes. In summery, the Equinox is more hype than it actually delivers. Be prepared for a much older crowd. Don't know if I would do the southern caribbean again.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 2A

Quite location. Limited shelf space. Storage space over the bed tough to reach. No desk space. Veranda nice. View down blocked by life boats. Terrible odor near elevators.
