LUMINOSA is a fine new ship. Public areas flash and spacious. A pleasure to walk around. No queueing for tables/seats etc at breakfst or lunch and with sea views. Cabin well designed and and with truly large and comfortable beds..We enjoyed the cruise [desite the gripes below] which was probably due as much to the great February weather than to anything else. THe lifts were ample and quick. Seldom had to wait.
There were a few niggles -
BAR DRINKS WERE EXPENSIVE [only a minor gripe]. They always are with Costa - so on principle we had fewer and spent less than usual in the bars.
ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT WERE POOR. Again they usually are with Costa. A fine theatre was wasted because of non-professional entertainers.
THE EVENING BUFFET MEALS HAVE BEEN ABANDONED by Costa. Never experienced that cost-cutting decision before. . It means that if you don't make it to your evening sitting on time then you don't eat. There's nowhere else - unless you want to take advantage of the opportunity provided for you by Costa to book a meal in the top-notch restaurant with a cover charge of a million euros. Perhaps that's what Costa wants - to maka da lira. It also meant that Sidney Scruff and his lot in jeans and T shirts were admitted to the restaurant each evening - there was nowhere else for them to eat. Food overall was acceptable, if below average. The lunchtime buffet was usually better than the evening restaurant.
WE would do this cruise again. THe great weather in Feb was such a relief. Next time we would look for a better company such as RCI or Celebrity etc.
It's a long flight. Make sure you get direct flights. One agent tried to sell us indirect flights with mickey mouse airlines.
