Explorer of the Seas - Eastern Caribbean

Sail Date: August 2004
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

Let me first start off by saying this was our 2nd cruise and we picked the largest ship of RCL.We flew into Miami from Atlanta and boarded a bus that the RCL agents meet us at the baggage claim area, good so far. Then we took the 20 min ride and got the tour of miami area pretty interesting, not bad for $22.After we got off the bus and got in line for embarkation process, which only took 20 min max,but must have immigration forms ready and passports and creditcard. We then went up to our rm and drop our carry ons and went to the Windjammer buffet and got some food. The food was good.

Rooms: The rms were cleaned and very nice for an inside rm, small but practical for 2 people. The Rm steward Hadie was nice but saw her maybe 3 times all during the cruise.

Food:The Windjammer buffet was ok, but crowded at breakfast and lunch. They need more seats just for 2 people, just a suggestion. The main dinning was great after the 2nd night when we changed our table mates with 2 people More we met on Cruise critic.

Ports: San Juan, Puerto Rico - beautiful city and plenty of tourist shopping. Such as, t-shirts, jewelry and other island souvenirs. St. Maarten - we went to Orient beach, very pretty and interesting. Some of the locals were completely nude, not a beach for the family. Also, the same shopping available here, just your typical tourist shopping. St. Thomas - Great shopping here, many outlet stores here like Marshall's, Coaches, Hillfiger and more. You will have to go through customs before leaving ship, due to the fact you are reentering the U.S. Tried the Bob excursion, travel 20 minutes to secluded island and then take Bob underwater and saw tropical fish, an octopus and a sunken ship. Also, got to snorkel. Would recommend this excursion. Nassau - The dolphin encounters excursion is one you do not want to miss, great for the family. You have to experience the one on one contact with the dolphins. The shopping here near the port is the typical tourist shops, nothing special. We found we didn't seem to have enough time to do all the things we wanted to. We do want to visit this port again.

Dembarkation:This was the experience from hell,We were waiting at the luggage baggage claim station for our bags and we had an excursion at the Everglades at 8:00am, but we waited until 8:30 till we got our luggage, we missed the excursion by 5mins, I was livid. We had early tags also just for this excursion. So I asked the RCL respenstive what to do and the best he can do was send us on the bus back to the airport,at the airport we told them what happened and changed our flight out of miami from 4:00pm to 11:00.This cost us $50 more dollars for the change. The RCL will reimburse me for the excursion and flight change cost.Travlers beware of traveling in Miami.I will Never visit this city. The Total experience was great except the leaving of the ship, I would recommend this ship to anyone who wants to have the time of their lives. The CD- Cleo was great and enjoyed her and her group tremendously entrainment was great and the Ice Show dont miss and the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers were great. The crew was very friendly and handel any problems that i may had. Great ship and great experience, book this ship-EOS. Less
