The Gem is becoming a Cubic Zirconia

Sail Date: February 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

Been on the Gem twice. Noticed differences, as follows: No fresh berries (blueberries, strawberries), when same was requested in main dining room, request went all the way up to head of food. Told not enough fresh berries on board (no excuse for that)

No chocolate on the pillow at night.

Heavy pepper used in food preparation. Spicy seasoning even on lamb chops in Cagneys steak house. Only good main course there was the 12 oz. filet mignon. Not worth the $25.00 extra for other entrees.

Staff in dining room did not seem to work together. Did not help each other, if I needed coffee refill had to wait for my own server.

Spoke with the head of hotel and food and got a VERY GOOD RESPONSE FROM HIM. He was only a short while on the ship and he appreciated the observations.

Safety officer was excellent. A rope tying us to the pier got loose and he was immediately on it, and kept a long, long line of passengers trying to get off the ship More informed. He and the head of Hotel and food were a 10.

Heard that NCL is owned now by a hedge fund, investment group. They also own Harrahs Entertainment. Wonder if they have anyone in charge who is a)over 40 years old and b) ever been on a cruise? Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Best port for shopping as you can bring back additional tax free items. BUT, POOR PLANNING OF THE CRUISE. WE ARRIVED ON A SUNDAY AND SOME SHOPS DID NOT OPEN AND OTHERS CLOSED ABOUT 2 p.m. Really poor itinerary in that regard.
