We have cruised for the last 15 years, our last cruise with Princess was 5 years ago and was for us a first class experience. Jan 30th we boarded the Crown Princess with friends who were first timers. My first impression was how much the embarkation proccess had improved, I was amazed how quickly we were onboard and our luggage delivered to the cabin. The cabin standard was good and we were very well looked after by our steward. The life boat drill was reasonably fast and painless. The ship is well maintained spotlessly clean, the lay out is tasteful and we felt very comfortable. The service is very good and the entertainment for us is absolutly top notch. I can not praise the dancers enough. The standard of the crew is as high as ever and they all contribute to making a holiday special. However I feel the changes that have taken place are not for the better, for us it was not as relaxing as we had expected. At sail away the band Temprature ( who were extreemly talented) burst into life. The problem was you could barley hold a conversation as they were so loud. Bring back the steel drums ! The movies under the stars, which we enjoyed on an odd evening, were again blasting out most of the day, often at the same time as tha music which was most unpleasant. On a few occasions we had to pack up our stuff to find a quieter area. The food although still good is not as imaginative as it used to be as a previous review commented certain items are dissapearing buffets. We had told our friends about the baked alaska night, when the lights were turned down and the deserts were paraded sparklers burng brightly, then the waiters from all over the world sang together which never failed to bring a tear to my eye......... On the given night the deserts came from the kitchen bearing mini torches were paraded very fast round the dining room and then out of sight. It was more like a comedy scetch than a moving moment. As golfers we have previosly enjoyed the Cyber golf on board and were so dissapointed to find it only opened twice in the week and we could not get a booking, people we knew that were lucky enough were not happy at how expensive it was now. My biggest dissapointment and the main issue that will perhaps stop me booking with Princess again, is the hard sell constantly. Personally we do not cruise to shop we are far more intersted in the holiday itsself. At every opportunity the staff are forcing money off coupons on passengers and attempting to brain wash you into thinking that every stop is yet another opportunity to shop. Even trips have to include another chance to shop. Cruising has become cheaper over the last few years but the cost is you feel as if every day is yet another challenge at getting passengers to spend spend spend. Although we still enjoyed our holiday I feel that, it did not live up to expectations.
