Sail Date: Feb 2010

I would like to start by saying that I have taken three cruises prior to this one and they were all on Carnival. However, after this last experience on the week of 2/14 I will never again sail with them. I take a vacation every February with my mother and this time we decided to splurge and go for a balcony room on the highest deck on a 7-night rather than a 5-night. We arrived at the airport the day of debarkation at about noon only to be told that the ship would not be arriving to port until 3pm because of technical problems and we would not be sailing until 10pm (instead of 4pm). Fine - we waiting at the Marriott in the airport. We were provided with disgusting sandwiches for lunch, for which my mom and I decided to just go to a restaurant where we spent about $45 of our own money.

We then hung around the airport until we were given letters at about 5:30pm saying that due to the technical problem, we would not be going to Grand Cayman if it could not be fixed and they switched out the port of Belize for Costa Maya. The only compensation we would receive is the $20 for port taxes in Grand Cayman. NEEDLESS to say, every single person was extremely angry and not one single Carnival staff member could answer any of our questions. We were given the option to cancel if we wanted to and get our money back but Carnival already had taken all of our luggage so what were we to do? We were at Carnival's mercy at this point.

After 2 hours of angry passengers yelling at Carnival staff and getting absolutely NO answers, we finally boarded buses that took us to the broken boat. Carnival said they couldn't fix the problem HOWEVER they had the nerve to sail us out into the middle of the gulf on one engine. We completely missed Grand Cayman and since we were 6.5 hours behind on our first day, we were still across from Florida and were in the middle of disgusting RAIN AND COLD weather the entire day at sea.
