We arrived a day early and took advantage of the Crowne Plaza fly/cruise package. Since "luggage" fees are so high, we made a quick trip to Target in San Pedro (van from hotel took us) to buy baby food and diapers. (You can order to have on board, but if you check the prices - way too high!) The next morning we took the shuttle to port. We got on the ship quickly and found our way to the Windjammer. Found a seat and had a light lunch right away. Muster went well - no need to drag the life jackets down with you anymore. Then off we went! My daughter and her family had the cabin next to us 7688 - one of the biggest aft "patios" (balcony) I have seen. All together our group had 4 aft cabins. View is obstructed a little but the size of the balcony makes up for it. My daughter tried the babies group for her daughter once, but because she was 8 mos. old and some "older" (than the 18 mos. limit) were participating with siblings, it didn't work out well. They were too rough. Entertainment was good. Same Ice Show we saw on this ship last year, but still enjoyed it. Food was ok. Not the same as it used to be, but good. Our head waiter, Greg, and our waiter Jose were excellent. Greg even arranged for the baby to get fresh pureed food for dinner! This ship still looks as good as the day it rolled out to sea. Housekeeping takes really good care of her - she sparkles. If I could improve anything, I would have the piano bar open earlier and have other venues going between 6 and 10. I would also play a different type of music there. The few times we went by, the music was loud and not the Broadway tune type/sing along we were used to. Didn't use Ellington's because it opened too late for us. My husband and sister-in-law enjoyed the casino. This was my second time to the Mexican Rivera (Vision last time). Not too many shore excursions are offered for older people. The younger half of the family did use the resorts and had a blast. Coming back to LA the water was very choppy both times I have been on this cruise = be forewarned. Probably will not do this cruise again, but if Mariner goes somewhere else, I wouldn't hesitate to take her again! Only other comment - I'm now Diamond Whooptie Do! The new loyalty program is not that good. OOPS! one more comment - Captain Per was out and about quite frequently. Maybe this is why the crew takes such pride in this ship. It comes from the top down.

Cabin Review

Small cabin, but great balcony. Over crew area but quiet.
