Embarkation was pretty smooth and easy. We arrived around noon and waited a bit to go through security. Once through, very easy. On board we found it was time to consider many opportunities to sign up for on our at sea days. Glad we were on early as many of these sold out. After signing up, we went for lunch. We did eat in the Windows Restaurant...though everyone we asked where it was wanted to direct us to the buffet. Glad we stuck to this plan as we met and sat with 2 other couples and enjoyed a great lunch with great service!
This was our 4th cruise...2nd on NCL (2 others on RCCL). I must admit I like a regular dining time though we had no issues with getting into the restaurants in a timely manner. We ended up eating in the restaurant the night of the chocolate buffet (the same one where the choc buffet is held). We got there just before closing and were seated in a location where we observed the final setting up. After VIPs passed through the line, we were offered to jump in before the doors opened! Very fun!
Food was pretty good...lobster tail night...mine was tough. Nicely spoke to a supervisor who brought me another that was perfect!
Entertainment was good. Not fabulous, but entertaining enough before late night dancing and drinking.
Staff was pleasant and very responsive.
The destinations really make this a fantastic cruise!
Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala We chose a Go with gus tour. Our greeter was not Gus as written in other places, but a kid from the Bronx. I didn't love his attitude...but we got to our destination via a boat with about 30 others. We did a kayaking trip down the canyon/jungle river. It was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Great to see locals on the water fishing. We ate in a little place where no one spoke English...fresh seafood!
The people of the local village put on quite a spectacle as we left the pier. Busses, tour operators, police, a dance group, drummers...all gathered, entertained, flashed lights and yelled a grand good bye and thank you in unison.
